@LindsayInNY: Thanks for posting- while I so wish you weren't going through this, it is nice to hear someone with a similar story. I feel less alone.

@Raindrop: @LindsayInNY: I just created a Stress Reduction and TTC post to focus on reducing stress and helping to hold each other accountable.

@Raindrop: I'm so glad you are feeling good about this cycle!

@HeartAbandoned: Things are sounding good for you! Don't worry too much about temping. BDing is the most important thing.

@Crystal: Why aren't you feeling good about this cycle? Did you get some BDing in? If you BDed at least once in the general time of O, then you've got a fighting chance. Chin up, friend!!

@AmeliaBedilia: I do think you should take a few months off to get back to a decent relaxation mode. Too much stress is not good for anything. What do you mean "go digging" though. So sorry, I'm dense today.

@LindsayInNY: I love all these big steps you are taking!!!

I always have a hard time with the "stress means no pregnancy" line of thinking. I mean really..... how much stress is required before it becomes a reason for not getting pregnant? I think of all the ladies in the world who have the stress of not being able to feed their families, or not feeling safe in their homes and yet there are so many babies being born. Yet somehow I am supposed to believe that because I'm stressed about meeting some superficially important work deadline, I am unable to support a pregnancy in my body? Strike me dead if I'm wrong, but I just don't buy it.

@AmeliaBedilia: I'm gonna post this on your other thread... But, for me, stress turns me into a monster. I let things get to me, I'm irritable and nasty sometimes... DH called last year my "year of the dragon." We've termed this year the "year of the butterfly," so whenever all those thoughts and feelings come out that make me a dragon, I just say "butterfly... butterfly" out loud. Which kinda makes me LOL (and probably sound like a nut job right now!)

@mrs. tictactoe: I love your kind of crazy!! I think it would be a perfect time for you to get pregnant. I always do the same kind of analysis. If I got pregnant this cycle, I would be around 34 weeks pregnant when we travel from SoCal to Hawaii for a wedding. How lame is it that I've already looked up airplane flight restrictions, travel insurance and Maui birthing facilities?

@Raindrop: Hi friend. Thanks for asking! I'm okay. 7dpo. DH when for his SA today. It was the most awesomely awkward experience for him and he's such a great trooper about it. He even sent me funny pictures from his room. We've had so many laughs today.

@MrsMcD: Wow that's an interesting way of thinking about. You are totally right. Sometimes we (dh and I) read stories on the news about parents that can't afford things for their kids and we feel so sad for them! They have way more worries than us and they are still able to conceive.

@LindsayInNY: That sounds super cute! DH has a problem smiling. Whenever I want to see him smile. I say "watermelon" and look straight at him... it caught him off guard at first and it was funny when he finally remembered what our deal was now he totally understands when I say "watermelon" but funny thing is... I haven't had to say in a long time!

@Raindrop: I just feel so badly if a girl thinks that something she is doing (i.e., stressing out), is preventing a pregnancy. I'm sure a girl can cross that line into insane stress, but I just don't see that happening under normal every day circumstances.

@LindsayInNY: good luck with the CD11 ultrasound! I always found them nerve wracking, but you're probably within a week of IUI at most which is awesome!

@MrsMcD: @doxielove: joining you for cycle twins! I am 6-7dpo I think. I was doing a good job not thinking about the TWW and then today I got major cramps. like went to the bathroom while running an errand to check for AF. so now I can't help but think about it . . . sigh.

@MrsMcD: had to add on - you totally have to laugh about the SA situation, especially if they are giving an on-site sample. I'm always asking DH for details on what kind of porn they have at the RE I'm just curious!!

@MrsMcD: I LOLed on your Hawaii birthing facilities but hey you have to know those things right?!

Your DH and you have a very cute relationship! Texting pics to each other.

I definitely agree with @MrsMcD about the stress thing. I see a therapist (used to be weekly and now it's a few times a year) and she always tells me, "stressed out people get pregnant all the time" and it's so true. I think even the pressure of trying to reduce stress while TTC can actually cause more stress!

That said, both times we have conceived, I have been on summer break. No work, sleeping in, naps all the time...

@bhbee: @Raindrop: DH sent me a text with a picture of the porn selection, his cup, and a packet of preseed and just said "Decisions, decisions." He said he made no eye contact with anyone. And the nurses were all hot and he could hear them talking and laughing outside his room which just caused him different feelings. Bahahaha. I told him horror stories that I've read about from here. Specifically, I said, "don't feel the need to fill the cup and don't feel bad if you don't." The cup was huge!!!!!

I have made these points to DH- that stressed out people get pregnant all the time. He states that I am SUPER stressed out (true), and that this is nature's way of keeping me from getting pregnant when my body thinks I am going to be eaten by a bear.

The other point that DH often makes is that God has known the timing wasn't good. I am leaving my current job which is very complicated and a very negative work environment. DH just moved back in and is opening a business. We are having to devote so much time and energy to work issues that neither of us have much left. DH keeps reminding me that the reason we might not have a baby is that God knew this wasn't a good time. It makes some sense with what a crapshoot getting pregnant is. Part of me believes this, but what if it isn't true and we never get to have kids?

@MrsMcD: awww poor guy. they wouldn't let him bring in a sample? DH was able to bring in a sample but he seemed self conscious about the whole thing. He wanted me to be nowhere near him and then he got nervous about how large the cup was that he was given.

  17. bhbee

    cantaloupe / 6086 posts

@MrsMcD: omg next time we do an IUI I am requesting pictures. hahaha. maybe the cup is big to help with the "catch"? DH told me has to mark on his cup whether he gets the whole sample in there or not. which raises a question about how many people miss and where that ends up . . . ew.

@littlek: DH didn't want to bring in the sample. And I really just preferred he do it there. He had no issues at all with doing this.

  21. mrs. tictactoe

    blogger / pomegranate / 3201 posts

@AmeliaBedilia: yeah, I worry about that type of thinking, too. I think it's easier to accept that after you've conceived and can look back and say, "God knew the perfect timing."

    GOLD / pomegranate / 3938 posts

@AmeliaBedilia: If you want to believe that, then that's totally great. But I hate for you think you are doing something that's preventing you from getting pregnant. There are PLENTY of people in this world getting pregnant when its not a good time. That being said, I do believe God has the best laid plans for all us and that His plans are not always our plans.

@littlek: I don't think he felt pressure. Except maybe the pressure of having to hold "it" in for days. So he's totally a great conservative guy. but he has no problem jerking off. Its funny to me to hear of guys who claim to not jerk off.

@MrsMcD: Great story! Trying not to bust a gut here at work. We have such great story tellers in this thread.

@AmeliaBedilia: Aww. Your story kind of reminds me of what mrs. cowgirl wrote in one of her posts. "A way to make god laugh is to tell him YOUR plans."

For relaxing... how about a mani/pedi at a spa? That sounds like bliss. I liked accupuncture, I found it very relaxing.

@mrs. tictactoe: being a bit of a lurker here but there was an interesting TED talk that basically said exactly what you are saying. They did studies and found that people who focus on or worry about their stress in life see more of its effects than those with equal levels who don't zero in on it. That said I think that finding ways to cope whilst it may not help fertility significantly can definitely help with ones overall well being. I am a very high strung person and I have also been accused of being too stressed out this time around. I also loved acupuncture.

I hope may is a banner month on here!!!

@MrsMccarthy: I'd love to see that! I definitely agree that taking steps to reduce stress can only be good. I commented on @AmeliaBedilia's post joining her in taking some steps to reduce my stress, too!

All the stories about guys giving their sample for their SA are killing me! I wish we could "like" posts on here sometimes!
Luckily DH was able to do his at home, then take it in to the lab. He was super stealthy about it, though - I didn't know he was doing it until he came back and told me it was done!

@MrsMcD: @doxielove: @bhbee: I'm 6DPO today, so another cycle twin (or quadruplet? ) Hope to see lots of BFPs in the next week, and the rest of the month!

@littlek: Mani/pedi with extra 10 minute massage..... I'm relaxed just thinking about it!

@MrsMccarthy: I always enjoy TED talks and that one you mentioned sounds so perfect.

@charmed: I love that your guy was stealthy. Its so awesome to see how these guys react to doing such an awkward thing that us wives are requesting. We are all so lucky.

@MrsMccarthy: Is this the ted talk you were talking about?

    https://www.ted.com/talks/kelly_mcgonigal_how_to_make_stress_your_friend

    Abstract:
Stress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive, and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others.

@MrsMccarthy: @littlek: I want to learn more about accupuncture for fertility. If we aren't successful this cycle I want to try it next cycle. I get um 10 visits covered by health insurance.

    honeydew / 7295 posts

@dc yoga bee: feel free to ask anything you want to ask. Usually your best bet is to find someone who works with doctors or through a trusted source. Where I go they do a full interview with you first to figure out a plan that fits you. In my case I worked with a woman who specializes in fertility and prenatal acupuncture.

  40. dc yoga bee

    grapefruit / 4770 posts

@MrsMccarthy: my health insurance requires they be doctors but didn't clarify if doctors in accupuncture or actual medical doctors. That's probably something I should figure out beforehand lol. I found one that specializes in fertility nearby. I'm also wondering if I could get bloodwork just to have an idea of whether my parts are in working order. Or will no doctor talk to us at six months in?
