Did you have a membrane sweep done? If so, how far along were you? Did it work?

I was 40w3d and it gave me lots of cramps. It didn't put me into labor but I was induced three days later and I'm sure it helped. I was having 30 second long contractions every 8 minutes

i was 39w when i got one, and i went into labor about 36 hours later (felt lots of irregular cramping in between, nothing in regular intervals).

I had one at 40w5d. Went into labor about 36 hours later, don't know if it influenced things at all.

I had one at 40 weeks and then again at 41 weeks. It didn't work either time.

I had one at 40+5 and I had timeable contractions for three hours that night, but then they stopped. Maybe it helped me prepare since my successful induction was the next morning?

I had one at 41 weeks that didn't work, but I'm convinced the one I had at 41 and 5 days put me into labor. My water broke 4 hours afterwards! It hurt like a bitch though.

I had two. One at 40 weeks and one at 41 weeks. I'm not sure if it ended up working or not. I was 10 days overdue so maybe the second one helped. It is very very uncomfortable though.

I had one at 39wks (Friday). I lost my mucus plug Sunday night, went into labor Tuesday morning and had him Wednesday afternoon. Maybe it worked? But maybe it didn't. I did cramp a lot, though.

I was 39 and 3 days when I had the sweep. Went into labor late that night and delivered morning of 39 and 4 days!

I voted other because when I had it done at 38 weeks my water broke! She barely did anything, i didnt feel a thing, and then I went gush! I often wonder if my water would have broken easily on its own had she not gone up there to take a look...

I had one at 39 weeks and it worked immediately for me. I left the doctors office around 6pm and started having contractions on my drive home. I went into labor that night and headed to the hospital at 10pm. It was fast!!! My doctor was even surprised how fast it worked!

I had one the day after my EDD and started cramping that afternoon. I went into labor the next day! I ended up having an emergency C-section though.

I had 2 membrane sweeps and my labor didn't start immediately after either of them but I did dilate very quickly (was dilated to a 4 before my water broke or I had any contractions). My water broke at 38w5d.

I had one at 40w... Nothing. One at 41 w and went into labor that night. BUT I kind of wish I didn't because I got an infection 9 days after her birth that my midwife said could have been from it...

@Mrsjets: @kml636: Do either of you know how common infections afterward or water rupturing are after a sweep? My OB offered one and I declined wondering if either of those things could be possible complications. I can't find anything to back it up though.

I had one at 39 wks (my 2nd) and went into labor at 39w2d. But I also had reflexology done at 39w1d, so who knows which caused it, if either.

I had two: one 41w1d and another at 41w5d. Neither worked and I was induced at 42 weeks. In my case though, DD wasn't engaged in my pelvis and my cervix was really unfavourable. There's a much higher success rate if you have a favourable cervix.

I had one at my 40 week appointment, and my baby was born less than twelve hours later. My midwife told me that you usually know within twelve hours or so whether it has worked or not.

@grizz: I'm not sure actually. I know that I'm not going to do it next time until 40 weeks...I think I might have had a better delivery if the baby and my body were just a little more ready. Or I could just be dreaming

I had one at 36 weeks, and another at 38. Neither worked, and I was 4 cm dilated at 39 weeks. I thought for sure that being that far along and nowhere near labour that the sweep would put me over the edge, but it didn't! I was induced 3 days before my due date.

I didn't have one with either, although I wish it was at least offered with my second since I had to be induced.

Just had one this past Thursday and that combined with sex put me into labor by midnight and had LO the next day! I was 2 days past 40, so my body definitely was ready for it.

I had 3. One at 38,39 & 40w. They didn't work and I went to 40+3.
I do think they help though and they don't get so, why not?

I had one at 39 then 40 weeks. Went into labor 40+1. Not sure if that's what did it.
pomegranate / 3706 posts
I had 3: 1 somewhere in my 39th week, and then two back to back each day, when I was 40 weeks 4 days and 40 weeks 5 days. The last one they did right before they checked me in to induce me, and it did work, for a while. I went right into labor and contracted every 7 minutes for about 4 hours, and then stalled and the pitocin was started.

I had been having inconsistent yet timeable cramps during my 39th week, and I had my membranes stripped the day before I went into labor (3 days before my due date). I was 2 cm and almost completely effaced. I actually have no idea if it worked, but I voted that it did

Had one today at 40w5d. Hoping this sets things into motion! It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Helped to have DH there to hold my hand

Yes, I was 38 weeks and a few days later at 39 weeks my early labor started. But I was progressing pretty good before that already.
@maybebaby: I thought pap smears are more uncomfortable than a membrane sweep.
coconut / 8305 posts
No membrane sweep & would've only done it to avoid an erc at 41+6 weeks (had to transfer out of my MW care at 42+1)

I had one at 40 weeks, and it did nothing. Then I had one at 41 weeks, after I had already been in labour for several hours. It stretched me from a 6 to an 8.
pomegranate / 3272 posts
I couldn't have it done since I tested positive for the strep b (that's what it's called, right?) and for some reason that meant my doctor couldn't do it.
