Supposed to have it done on Mon am at just past 39 wks. Debating whether or not I should have it done.
Heard arguments on boh sides. Chance of labor not progressing csection etc
I was 2 cm dilated and fully effaced last wk. Baby's head was fully engaged.
Do it or skip it?

I have no clue, but at my last appointment my OB was like - " if you decide to have me sweep your membranes, it will be painful." Sweet. At least she was honest.

I think it cant hurt but might now help either. It seems like if your body is ready it might be a jump start, but i havent heard the arguments against. I had it done at 40+2 and 40+5 and it was uncomfortable but not truly painful for me. I ended up with an induction at 40+6 but it was worth a shot. Goodluck either way

I have no idea if my ob did it for me. If he did, he didnt tell me and didnt call it a membrane sweep! Hahah

It won't cause labor to start, if that's what you're worried about...I've heard it only does something if your body was ready for it anyway. I say go for it! I had it done and it wasn't too painful--like an intense pap smear.

I had 3 before edd, one after edd, next day went into labour!
I vote go for it!

GAH you're so close!!! 2cm and fully engaged?! I was in early labour and I was barely 2cm, I hope he comes soon.
I don't think it's a big problem, but I'm all for letting nature take its course.

I did and was at 39 weeks ish as well but I think I was further along than you are. It really didn't hurt that much more than a Pap smear to me. I did go into labor within the next 48 hours so who knows??

mine didnt hurt at all! got it done 39+5 and 40w, the 2nd is when my water broke an hr later

I had it done twice. The first time it was super painful to the point where I was in tears and like omg I don't know if I can push out a baby if I couldn't handle that pain for two minutes. The second time wasn't bad at all.
Neither time made lo come though.

Seems like you're progressing well on your own, for still being prior to your due date. I probably wouldn't if I was in your shoes since your body is already doing it's thing!

I did 2...& each one helped me dilate and get effaced a lot! Didn't throw me into labor but it def moved things along. I say do it!

Did you end up having this done? I'm wondering if they will suggest it tomorrow at my next appt.

I had two - one at 39 weeks and one at 40 weeks. First one hurt, second one wasn't as bad - and I think the second got my contractions started! I was ok with it late in pregnancy - seemed better than pitocin to induce to me!!
