Did you receive both methotrexate shots in a single injection site or did they inject each syringe into two different sites?

I can't vote - my ectopic was treated with removal of the effected tube.(Diagnosed at 8 weeks, so too far along for methotrexate option.) Just wanted to say I'm sorry for your loss. Ectopics are a particular kind of awful. PM me if you ever want to talk.

@knittylady: thank you! I have no idea how to PM. I'm on my phone- maybe I'm missing something. I would love to connect

I got treated for an ectopic at the beginning of September. I actually did my own shots (I'm an RN) since I was on vacation when the last beta result came through. I ended up doing 4 shots since what I could easily get on short notice were 1cc syringes. I did 2 in each ventrogluteal.
Part of the reason they suggest multiple injection locations is possible improved absorption. The other part is that there's only so much volume that you can safely do -- for the deltoid that's generally no more than 2cc, but, volumes of 1.5cc or less are a whole lot less painful.

@lilyofthewest: thanks so much. I was treated for an EP but the first round of shots she put both shots in my arm, my arm swelled up with fluid and then my hormone levels kept rising. I had to go back for a 2nd round and that's when the new nurse said that they needed to do them in two locations. I ended up back in the ER the next day- my hormone level dropped but the EP started to burst and I lost my tube. I just feel like the initial shot was administered incorrectly and I went an additional week without enough medicine. I'm just so sad and frustrated

@MrstypeA: I'm so sorry for what you've went through.
I had surgery to remove a EP so I have no experience with methotrexate but just wanted to offer support

I got one shot in each buttcheek.
So sorry for what you went through, I would be VERY upset.

@lilyofthewest: just curious- did they tell you that you had to wait a certain amount of time to try again after the methotrexate? Thanks!

@MrstypeA: They suggested one cycle p hCG going down to zero. The rationale was a combination of time for folate supplementation & levels to return to normal and ease of dating. It used to be recommended to wait for much longer, but, the evidence doesn't seem to support any strict minimum.

@lilyofthewest: amazing! Thank you- I was reading you had to wait 6 months. I have my follow up next week where I'm sure it will Bc discussed. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly!!
