I actually wouldn't do a microwave over a stove (if I had a choice) because of the decrease in ventilation. The ones that have wider fans help air out food smells MUCH better. Also, IMO (who cares about me though), free standing looks more modern. But ours is just as you described so here's a pic:

Ours is over our stove. It sticks out a bit, although I had to go find a pic on fb to answer that question because it never occurred to me to notice before lol.

@CupQuakeWalk: @Mae: We have a big open space above the stove for one and limited counter top space. Problem is finding a microwave to fit the exact space. So I started looking online and realized that most aren't an exact it! I guess it's one of those things you don't really think about until you have to?

@Mae: Love the backsplash! We're having ours done with red subway tiles

@mrs. bird: Thanks
@LindsayInNY: We bought our house with the cabinets/appliances already installed so I guess I really just never even thought of it! Funny because I obsessed about every other decision in there (hardware, backsplash, wall color, etc) lol. Probably goes to show that whatever you pick will be just fine.

@LindsayInNY: yeah, I don't think I ever gave any thought to it at all! I'm assuming it looks better to stick out some than to be inside any, you know? I'd rather it be a large and out than look all sunken in. How big is the space? Ours is kind of a large microwave and I'm glad because my Mom's is teenie! Some large casserole dishes don't fit in it, so watch out for that if you can help it.

@mrs. bird: Okay I'm going to need a close up of the sticker on your microwave bc I have a feeling it is awesome...

@Mae: there are normally 2 there, they're not for everyone, but they make me smile (I'm super jealous you can stick things on your fridge! Nothing will stick to ours so I use the microwave
)

@Mae: Love your kitchen.
we do, I will take a pic when I manage to crawl down there for food some point tonight.

@mrs. bird: I'm so glad @mae: asked cause I was squinting to see myself. LOl Love both of them! (esp the Bush)

I think it needs to stick out a tiny bit in order to be able to open it more than 90 degrees.

Sorry for the crappy pic. Here's ours - the kitchen was already like this when we bought the place so I didn't give it much thought.

I agree with @CupQuakeWalk, I would NOT do a microwave over a stove, given the option. This is the only thing I dislike about our kitchen, I'd much rather have a vent hood over a stove, especially if you cook a lot. Having a microwave up there is a nuisance and I don't like the way it looks. That said ; you asked for pics....

Ours isn't over the stove because it has to be a certain distance above and we would have to lose cabinet space to make that happen.

Ours is over the stove as well, we're changing it out for a vented hood when it dies.

ours is over the stove.love it as I have more counter space than before.
ventilation is a non issue.

Thanks for all the pics! We ordered one today. We have a small kitchen so the countertop space is at a premium, which is why we want one over the stove!
