If you would send her to daycare I would go to the party. If she had a fever I would keep her home as that is more contagious.

I probably wouldn't. If I brought my kid to a party and another kid there was coughing a lot I would probably be really annoyed. I'm usually more forgiving at daycare because I understand how hard it can be to stay home from work for a cold, but since it's a birthday party and not something you have to attend I would skip it.

If the cough isn't too bad, I would go I think. It also depends on how she seems- is she off or sluggish or just generally not feeling great, or does she just have a runny nose and dry cough but is totally herself? Also, do you know if there would be younger babies there? Does the birthday kid go to daycare or other activities where she is around a lot of kids and germs?

I feel like once kids are going to activities with lots of kids or daycare, a little cold is whatever. If they stay home and their mom or caregiver avoids all germs, respect that and stay away.

Dry cough & clear runny nose that isn't needing to be wiped every minute - probably yes.

If she was looking and acting visibly sick (hacking up phlegm and I'm constantly wiping her green snot) I wouldn't. If it was a close friend and I felt bad to miss, I would ask my friend what they honestly thought. If they said to yes, please come, I would probably drop by very quickly to bring a gift and try to keep LO from touching anyone/anything.

I agree that it is a little different from daycare. When LO was still in daycare there were days I would have liked to have kept her home but I just couldn't - and I get that other parents are in the same boat. Some babies/kids may also not be in daycare or school and exposed to germs on a daily basis and so a sickness could be pretty rough for them.

I would skip or, if a close friend, talk to the mum about it. We went to a kid's birthday party a few months back and there was a kid with a very runny nose and bad cough there, who got my toddler sick and then me sick and I was pregnant and really didn't need that. I would be worried about getting others, especially babies, sick.
