Hi guys!
I know every baby develops differently and at their own pace but I was wondering if any of you mamas noticed a delay in some milestones if born a little bit earlier. Our little one was born at exactly 37 weeks Aug. 29th when he was supposed to be born on September 19th.
It seems like he's always a week or two behind on some milestones but maybe I'm just thinking that in my head!

DS was born at 37 weeks and he did everything right around when he was suppose to - a few weeks on either end I wouldn't consider delayed

I've been wondering the same thing, DS was born 36 +2 and he seems to be a few weeks behind on things he didn't smile till 8 weeks.

DD was born 4 weeks early and she's been in the normal range of everything so far (now 9 months). Although she's definitely not the first of her peers to do anything (except teething). Babies have such a range of development. I would think doing things on the later end of the normal range like you're describing would be, well, normal!

dd was born 37w5d so not super early, but she still seems to track better with her actual due date. so she's usually a couple weeks behind. ds was born 38w though, and is verbally ahead altho physically alittle late (but still normal range)

Yes, I look for milestones based on due date, not birth date. I use the wonder weeks app and it has you put in due date to track leaps, not birth date, since brain development will go off of a 40 week gestation.

DD was born at 37+2 and was slightly slower with milestones (compared to LO1 who was born in the 39th week) until about 6 months. I wasn't worried though. Once she hit 6 months she started meeting or exceeding LO1's milestones.

LO was 5 weeks early and I found the milestones to correspond with his due date. now that he's over 18months, it matters less.

@paigeface: My son was also 3 weeks early! I do feel like he's sliiiiightly behind. Boys develop slower too but yes I think he might be behind his "girlfriends". I don't stress too much about it because I see progress and I think that matters more.

My LO was 6 weeks early and was behind in some of the earlier milestones (smiling, rolling, etc.) He quickly caught up and is 20 months now. It is totally normal to be "behind" if they are born early, so try not to worry and just think of their milestones based on their due date.

DS was born at 37 and 2. Doctors told me he might be behind on his milestones, but he has always met or exceeded the milestones.

Well my son was born 15 weeks early, so yeah, but I fully believe just about everything goes on a 40 week gestation time-table. Once their older it's not so noticeable because the range for normal gets so big. But when the range is a few weeks or a month, it makes a huge difference!

LO was born at 38w and I don't consider him to be behind in anything. He has done some things in advance of other babies and slower in others. But overall really normal. Sometimes I wonder with his reflux if that would've been better if I went full term.

LO 3 was born at 36 weeks and ahe seems to be more physical than her two older sisters that were full term. She sat up and army crawled way earlier and is close to pulling up and crawling.
I feel like her hearing wasn't that great until 5-6 months and I had her checked out by an audiologist.

From the other end of the spectrum I found that my extended stay babe (41w5d or 41w6d depending on how you counted the due date) was about two weeks ahead on a lot of the early milestones. Now at 11mos the range for normal milestones is wide enough that I don't see any difference

@Eko: YES on the reflux. LO has terrible reflux issues and I always wonder if that's because he was born at 37 weeks. He's still not grown out of it

@Eko @paigeface to make you guys feel better, my son was born at 39+6 spontaneously. He is 7.5 months old and his reflux is still REALLY bad. He has MSPI (well, milk, soy + other things) and his GI thinks also some sort of delayed GI emptying/gastroparesis. So, it may not make a difference.

@paigeface: My LO is 10 months and while we have been able to scale back his dose, we can't completely go off of his medicine yet. I suspect we won't be able to completely get off of it until he is 100% on solids. I was induced because of high bp and I may rethink it, or at least have more conversations with my doctor if there is a #2.
@MrsADS: That sounds really rough! Our LO wasn't quite as bad, but it is so rough. We started trying solids on an earlier side because of his reflux and it seemed to make a difference, even though it was a little.
