I had my Mirena placed about 6 weeks ago. I’m still having some spotting. How long did you spot/bleed after an IUD placement?

I don't remember exactly because it was a long time ago but I believe I spotted for 2-3 months but then it stopped and I basically didn't get a period again until I had it removed (except for very rare and light spotting)

I had mine placed in August and I'm still spotting pretty regularly... It's getting less and less though so I'm hopeful it'll stop soon.

Tell me all about Mirena b/c I'm going back and forth on whether to get one!

I just got my Mirena out this spring after 5 years, and also had one between my two kids for almost 2 years.
Pro: after a few months of initial spotting basically had no period.
Con: I got terrible hormonal acne which vastly improved once I got it out. I was already acne prone but this was definitely a factor for me.

My first one was placed at my six week check up after DD was born. I was still bleeding from birth so hard to say if it was that or the IUD but I had spotting for at least 3 months, maybe 4. My doctor said regular spotting was considered normal for the first 6 months. And then basically no period or spotting the whole time I had it. (I think I had 2-6 days of spotting per year at most)
My second one was placed when my first was removed. I only had very light spotting for four weeks after that one.
@Mommy Finger: I am on my second and I have loved them. I have no period. Very, very rare, light spotting. Had my first one for the full five years. But I think they have now been approved for seven years. I know they come with some risks but I have been very happy with them.

I spotted for a really long time, probably 9 months. My doctor said that it was normal, even though it was more than 6 months, because I was breastfeeding. I'm not sure why I stuck with it, probably because I didn't have a good alternative for birth control while breastfeeding. For a few months after the spotting ended I had normal periods, and then they became light spotting only.

@CatchAFallingStar: the first time I got it and spotted for right around 6 weeks. I remember wondering I needed to follow up and then it finally stopped. After that, smooth sailing! When I got my second one last year, I spotted for just a day or two.
@Mommy Finger: I love mine! Got the first after my second and last baby, once we got through the initial spotting I basically didn’t have a period at all. It was so low maintenance: I got mine replaced with a second one after five years (last fall) and it has been really smooth, no periods since. It has worked really well for me.

Did anyone still have cramps and bleeding after 6 months? This is my 6th month and I’m still having both.
