Any advice out there? My husband and I are traveling to the Dominican Republic for a week next month with our LO, who will be 11 months old. I've been on this trip before, but pre-baby, obviously. I'm still BF'ing, and he's a champion eater.

Where in DR will you be? I've never done a mission trip period but I don't think of DR as a "third world" country so I think you will be fine?

No advice as I have a 4.5 mo and we haven't traveled other than road trips but lots of prayers! We definitely want to do something like this with our kids one day!

What are you concerned about exactly? Is this a religious mission trip or one where you'll be doing construction?
I'd be concerned with vaccinations I think, and sleeping accomodations if they're different than what you're all used to at home.

Vaccines are taken care of. The area we're staying in/serving is pretty rural. I'll be heading up the VBS team. I was just wondering if there were any tips or products I might be overlooking. We're traveling with my church's student ministry - about 25 adults and 60 high schoolers.

@Kpinck: hm I honestly can't think of anything you won't be able to buy there? First thoughts are sleeping arrangements, bath time, childcare, will you wear him during "working" time?, pump if you ever need to be away from him? Health insurance? Out of network and letting them know you will be in the DR? Perhaps knowing of a good pediatrician / hospital in case god forbid LO reacts to something there or gets sick? Prebuying a ton of sunscreen if you're particular? Bug repellents?
Oh maybe some sort of netting/screen over his pack n play or travel crib? You're saying rural so I'm assuming you will be sleeping with windows wide open.

@Kpinck: are mosquitoes a concern? if so, i'd buy some of those bug bands for him to wear around his ankle or loop to his clothes since you probably don't want to spray repellent on him.
bring some baby powder to help prevent heat rashes if he gets sweaty, and it also works to get off wet sand in case you are in a beachy area.
i would also bring lots of washcloths and baby wipes to cool him down.
good luck and have lots of fun! praying for you and your team!
