@goldengirl we did not have any side effects from Prevacid or Nexium (a very similar medication) and my son is on 40mg/day which is an adult dose, basically.

Yeah ours was compounded in a liquid that we shot up but if I had to mix my own from the capsules I would probably sprinkle it on a little apple or pear baby food on a spoon and just smear it inside the mouth. Then wash down with milk.
No side effects other than the first week was really rough - seemed worse than before - but then it was a lot better.
