Are you still using a monitor for your older LO? Why or why not, and what's the age gap? If you are monitoring both, what are you using?

@Mrs. Yoyo: we use the motorola video monitor now after our summer infant one died on us. this one came with a parent monitor, and another sub-monitor so we can toggle back and forth between the two rooms easily. i guess i don't really need one for DD anymore, but i still like being able to check up on her when i want. plus, it came with the set so why not...

I have video cams on both kids. We have the Motorola.
Dd is 27 months old, DS is 6 months old.
Dd makes noises at night sometimes, or something I think I hear her when she's actually sleeping.
The monitor keeps me sane.

We don't know exactly what we'll be doing yet. We have a video and audio monitor, In the beginning we'll probably give the baby the audio. LO had it when she was little and it worked out fine because she didn't wake up when I went in to check on her and she didn't move around much yet. I still like to have video on my almost 2 year old so I know if she's in bed or trying to climb out.

We just use cheap Fisher Price sound and lights monitors for both kids. DD still calls out for us most of the time, instead of getting out of her bed, when she needs something. She is 3, and we'll keep her monitor until she is consistently getting out of bed instead of calling for us. We don't use DS's monitor upstairs, since he's pretty loud when he wakes up. We need it downstairs, though, especially when we have the dishwasher running, vaccuum running, etc...

We turned off the monitor on our older kid for like a week. Until he started jumping out of his crib. He's in a bed now, but we still use it because we prefer to know ahead of time if he's about to open our door and show up next to the bed. Because that's kind of terrifying hahaha. But we still cosleep with the little one so it's just one monitor.

we aren't sure what we're going to do yet....DS is 14 months(he'll be 15 months when #2 gets here) and still wakes 1-3(or more) times a night, so we are still using just an audio monitor. #2 will be in our room for probably the first 2-3 months so we'll leave the monitor in DS room until we transition her into her room from ours. we'll re-evaluate then. DH can get a really good dual video monitor through work for a decent price, so we are debating if we want to do that, or just save our money

Yes, we use Foscam. Our older one is 3 and we still monitor her because we are on a different floor from her. Otherwise, it is probably not necessary at this point. She sleeps all night anyway, but I just like to check up on her since she is so far away from us.

Thanks ladies. I may look into the Motorola ... I wish there was just a sound monitor that could do two rooms at one time, but apparently they don't exist! (We already have video through our security system)

We have the infant optics one from amazon. It takes two cameras (up to 4), but you have to click through the different views. It's totally sufficient for naps and bedtime. But overnight, we keep one child up on that, and have a cheap audio only monitor for the other. If DD (audio) wakes and we need to check on her, I can just click back over on the video monitor to her screen temporarily. It works well for us.
Eta: we have 11 mo twins in separate rooms, so we had to have dual monitors.

@Mrs. High Heels: @chopsuey119: So, 1 monitor, 2 cameras? We've been wondering what we'll do for #2. We loooove our motorola video cam, so I would totally buy a 2nd one in a heartbeat if it came down to it.

I don't use a monitor for either kid. LO 1's room is near ours and she STTN. LO 2 is still in our room.

@swurlygurl: Yep. 1 monitor 2 cameras. I just leave it on the "scan" setting and it goes back and forth between cams automatically.

I don't have an older and younger, but I wanted to say that we use the summer infant with the additional camera. From our one monitor, we can focus on either camera or have it "scan" between both cameras in 8-second increments. It works great.

Age gap: 5 and some change
Monitor oldest: No. We stopped when she was about four (could have stopped sooner, but we already had one in her room and so we just kept using it mostly out of habit)
What do we use: With Ellie we had a graco audio-only monitor since she was born sometime in the Precambrian. It was fine. Eventually the battery crapped and Mr. T found some parts on eBay. We used it with Lorelei until it well-and-truly died about a month ago. Now we have a Levana video monitor. Ellie likes it because she tries to get it to play music to freak Lorelei out, or she will talk into it in strange and creepy voices for the same purpose. We like it fine.
