My LO just turned 2 and its still throw this, throw that. Would love open storage and low accessible stuff but I don't think I can handle it

My daughter has had a montessori nursery and home since birth. It fits very well into our highly uncluttered lifestyle - she doesn't have a ton of anything, so even if she dumps it all out, it cleans up well. And at almost two, she's starting to clean up on her own.

For instance, our living room has a bunch of book cases, and the lower two shelves of each one have her stuff on them. Usually one item per shelf. So, a big puzzle on one. A wooden xylophone on another, and a box of wooden blocks on another. With things like puzzles, I have a few that get rotated. Her room is similar - a small number of high quality things. I notice that she gets bored with any amount of toys, so I see no reason to have a ton. She's more into imaginative play these days anyway - which requires very little.

Another important part of montessori is empowering children to make decisions in age appropriate ways. For instance, my daughter's shoes are all in a box on the floor. She picks out her clothing (from a few choices that I offer), then I tell her to go pick out a pair of shoes and bring them to me to help her get on. We do a lot of little things like this - as a part of building a sense of responsibility in her.
