I enjoyed taking monthly photos through my children's first year. It is amazing to look back and see how much they have grown.
Will I regret not doing it for year two? Are they going to change so much from month to month that it will be fun still?

I stopped taking monthly photos after the first birthday and I don't regret it. I feel like I still take plenty of photos of them that it's not really necessary to do the specific monthly photo.

I did monthly pictures in a designated spot until 2 - I'm really glad I did! Even though I take a ton of candid pictures I liked having her in the same location with the same stuffed animal to compare to. From 2 to 3 we are doing quarterly pictures in the same spot. Haven't decided our game plan after that.

I did monthly through age 1, then 1-1/2 and 2. Once they're moving it's much harder to get those photos anyway!

We took monthly photos up through a year, but it got to be such a production trying to get my wriggly baby to sit still and pose that I was starting to dread it each month. If he were more docile (hahaha, yeah right!) I might have continued, but it wasn't worth the effort after that point.

@josina: Hah - yes getting them to sit still together and look at the camera is getting so much more difficult. That's part of what makes me wonder if it is worth it

We took monthly photos for a year ... then we just made an effort to take photos with the "fancy" camera as much as possible. I'm really happy with what I have from her first 3.5 years. I print 4x6 "fancy" photos from Shutterfly, and iPhone photos through PostalPix ... all of them go into 1 yearly album. It's really awesome to have.

@meadow: It depends how much you like it! When I realized one of the biggest feelings of sadness about my son turning one was the end of monthly photos, I realized I could keep doing it (DUH). I love it, so we still do it. I am sure I will not do it past 2 though - cant be one of those moms telling people her 4 year old child's age in months.

@meadow: I only continued because DD was pretty easy going about the whole thing. If she wasn't into I probably would have stopped. I think it's only worth it if it is fun!
You could maybe do quarterly pictures? That would still allow you to see the changes.

@catgirl: Quarterly pictures in the same chair with the same lovely is a great idea post 2! I might steal it!

What I did is take monthly photos the first year, then every other month year 2, every 3 the next year, then every 4 months, then 6 months, and maybe every year from age 5.
Dd is currently 2.5 and so far the only one I've missed is at 20 months.

We did weekly photos for the first year now do monthly from a year on. She's 2 y 4 mo. I don't plan on stopping- usually it's just 5 minutes somewhere around the day she was born. I post on IG with comments and enjoy looking back and reading on my Timehop.
I also print 4x6s for an album. All that said I am a professional photographer so this is what I enjoy.

We did monthly for DS for the first year and then we switched to quarterly. We're planning on doing the same for DD.

I was pretty happy to stop doing monthly photos, but it was mostly switching them into the "month" onesies and posing them in the same chair that got tedious.

We tried after a year but gave up after a couple months because keeping her in one spot was so hard! The second year we basically had to be like wildlife photographers to get good pictures. Now she's a total ham and likes posing We were crazy though and did weekly pics for the first year which for LO1 was fun but now for LO2 is super tedious but I don't want her to feel left out and second child syndrome

I stopped after a year and I honestly take so many pictures already... But if you're good about remember and your kid will stay still enough for you... Why not?

We still try to do a half birthday and birthday picture in the same chair and lovie that we used for her monthly photos as a baby. We'll try to do the same for #2

I moved to yearly pics after 1 year. I think DD1, I have an 18 month pic too. But didn't get to it with DD2.
