What are your plans? Gifts for yourselves or the moms/mom figures in your life?
DH and I are fully vaccinated, as are our families. I made myself a pedi appointment on Friday. My first in FOREVER. I wanted to have a picnic at a state park on Saturday but the weather looks terrible. On Sunday we're having both of our parents and SIL/BIL over for a cookout. DH and the dads are responsible for all of the food/cooking. DH knows I expect a gift, I have a feeling it will be an air fryer lol.

Not 100% on our plans yet but I know we will get together with my mom/family for lunch and we usually go to a flower store. I will probably get my mom a hanging flower basket or similar. Not sure on MIL.
I need to have my kids make something for their grandmas, eek. Slacking.
The only thing I asked for was a skinny can cooler, lol.

well, my bday was this past Monday - it's a bummer to have them close together! so other than sleeping in, and a zoom and/or phone call with my mom since she's far away, that's it. oh and I'll refuse to cook 
but we'll probably just have takeout. truthfully though I don't even know what I would ask for! my MIL passed away in 2019 so I know it's not a fun reminder for DH.
for my mom, I made personalized photo cards on shutterfly and then I'm getting her some monogrammed towels she wanted.

My mom doesn't live close so I asked my dad to get her some flowers from us, and we'll call and give her a gift next time we see her.
For me, I know we're getting brunch from a local restaurant I like, I think my husband has arranged something with the kids but I don't know what (my five year old told me they were making a list but he wasn't allowed to talk about it). Really what I'd most like is a few hours by myself with nobody else in the house to read a book and drink a glass of wine without a hundred requests to play with somebody, go outside with somebody, get somebody a snack, or serve as an armchair for another human being.

DH has to work, so DD and I will spend at least part of the day with my mom. No real plans - will likely get takeout for at least one meal and just spend time together. Maybe go to a trail we like. We got my mom and stepdad a big combined gift for their birthdays, mother's day, and father's day. So just grabbed my mom a small starbucks gift card.

@erinbaderin: Ha, same re: what I really want. I told DH I wanted a night in a hotel by myself. I laughed it off but it wasn't really a joke.

DH's birthday is on Saturday so I feel like all of the focus has been on planning his day and me asking him what he wants to do. And honestly, DH sort of phones it in for every holiday so Mother's day will be no different. Luckily my parents will already have the boys overnight on Saturday as we're heading out with some friends and my brother and dad planned a brunch for the families on Sunday. Otherwise, no idea what we'll be doing. The only thing I asked for what that he send my bread knife out to get sharpened but he hasn't done that. Last time I asked him to get our knives sharpened it took him a year. And I'm also in charge of getting him his birthday cake for Sunday since we won't have the boys on Saturday. So there's that. But it's a good thing I'm not bitter! 
I got my mom some souper cubes which are awesome and a great way to freeze soups and stocks in cubes in 1 cup portion sizes. We're both into batch cooking so she'll love them like I do. And I'll have the boys make her some cards or something crafty if I can get my head in the game. I have some canvases that they can paint.

I'm a grouch and really hate this holiday lol DH never does anything for it, which I both like (because it's not necessary and he misfires with gifts anyway) and then hate because inevitably I have a twinge of "but he could have at least tried!) The best gift would be to get some alone time, tbh, but he doesn't really get that. Best gift I could get is him saying hey, kid and I are going to do lunch and playground and all the things together (like I regularly do with her) and you hang out for the day. So it'll probably be like any other Sunday.

Mother’s Day is such a tricky one for us because both my mom and MIL are local. We’re doing stuff with my mom Saturday morning and MIL Sunday morning. In theory Sun afternoon/evening is for me but I haven’t heard anything about that yet. I just wish DH and his siblings could manage their plans for their mom without involving me. I love MIL dearly but an enjoyable Mother’s Day for me doesn’t include figuring out a last minute brunch for 10. Others is, I’m considering starting therapy as a present to myself

@Mrs. Carrot: Have you told him this, and do you think it would help? I had a few years of birthday/mother’s days where I was let down, finally I just said “look, I want a cake/handmade card/two hours alone/whatever, please” and my husband has done that. It would have been nice if he had just done it on his own but I had to come to terms with the fact that that wasn’t going to happen and I had to be up front with what I hoped for.

DH is scheduled to get his second covid shot on Saturday, so I have a feeling it's going to mostly be me watching the kids this weekend while he sleeps/recovers. Unfortunate timing, although of course I'm glad he will be fully vaccinated. My mom/MIL are not local, I sent them both flowers and we'll zoom to wish them a happy mother's day.

@erinbaderin: oh definitely, I'm not shy about voicing things. Honestly the biggest issue is he gets paralyzed by anything that involves planning so unless I hand him a detailed plan (go to this place, there's a lunch place nearby, etc,), it's just not going to happen. Many times I'm fine with doing that, but lots of things about this day in particular just makes me grumpy overall and typically I just want to treat it as any other day.

I booked us a slot at a botanical garden that's not usually open to the public, it sounds so beautiful and they sound serious about capacity limits, social distancing, etc. They say you can bring your own picnic lunch. Sounds great except the weather is supposed to be cloudy and in the 50s....sigh.

We're back on lockdown in my part of the world, so none of that, unfortunately. I still prefer to celebrate American Mother's Day (the local version is on the last Sunday of May), so it'll likely be a quiet day at home or IF it's not raining, a secluded picnic somewhere.
As for gifts, I picked out a book that I wanted for DD to wrap and a fake houseplant (that looked good online, but I'm not so much in person
As for my mom, I sent her a couple of colorful bushes for her front yard.

We will be doing a house project, so we did a little outting last weekend to celebrate. We went for a nice walk around a lake and out for ice cream. It was very fun.
On the actual day, I picked up some fun breakfast food and told my husband I except a card and flowers. I also sent him the link to some cheap earrings I want but hadn't pulled the trigger on on my own. If feels pretty lame to pick out my own gifts and buy food, but I don't think I'd get anything or he would even remember the day if I didn't tell him. He forgot to buy a card my first mother's day and only got a necklace because I had told him several times. Better feel lame about the whole thing than sad though? I don't know. I struggle with this holiday. Gifts and planning outings aren't my husband's strong suit.

@erinbaderin: Amennnnnnn to telling DH what you want instead of resenting him not getting it right! My friends are always saying "your husband is so thoughtful" " how do you get so much alone time?" Um I demand it. So worth it. And can I join you for that alone time with some wine and no one is saying "mommy mommy mommy"? I won't even talk to you lol. It'll be the best day ever.

DH is a coach and Mother's Day weekend is usually the state championships. His team lost last weekend, so his season is over but this is his first weekend to sleep-in since January.
I got tired of dropping hints about wanting a card and a gift/no gift in years past, so I just bought myself a nice robe and I'm going to give him the gift bag too
I found some cute, useful things for my mom and his mom online (pretty potholders, silk pillowcase) and bought them cards.
As for day of, if we aren't in a hotel for the state champs, I usually ask to sleep in and he initially takes on wake-up at 6, but then falls asleep on the couch and DS either wakes me up or ends up waking MIL. This year DD is 11 months, so I'm wondering how that will play out.
MIL, DS, DD and I have an awful cold, so either I'll be sleeping that off or he will be in full man-cold mode and I'll be muddling through.
I honestly wish Mother's Day didn't exist, the timing sucks for us and it's just one more thing for me to do! Maybe one year I'll pick another weekend (away from coaching seasons) and ask for a day to myself.

I was inspired by your post and booked myself a pedicure appointment this afternoon as well. I suggested we go strawberry picking on Sunday but my SIL is now hosting a lunch so we are going to see her and my MIL instead. I sent DH a link to a book that I want so he better have ordered it. What do I really want for Mother's Day? A day off and the house to myself.

Oh and for my mom and MIL I ordered and shipped those personalized yankee candles with a photo of DS and a message. They’re really cute.
