For mother's day, a lot of posts were about gifts and special celebrations, or lack thereof.
I want to know how you feel about "Hallmark Holidays." Do you celebrate them? Are you in line with your SO about how/if you celebrate?
And... for mother's day--did it meet your expectations?

I grew up not celebrating Hallmark holidays with my parents and always tried to secretly do something for mother's day and father's day some time in the summer just to surprise them, but it never mattered if we forgot.
Now... I wonder if they wanted us to do something more for them.
For what it's worth, I'm not a mom yet (39 weeks pregnant), and so DH had a good excuse to do nothing--but I do want to do something "real" to celebrate next year.

haha... this would be my answer "NOTHING, BUT WISH WE WOULD HAVE CELEBRATED (MORE THAN JUST "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!" minus the Happy mother's day.
Actually I just wish I got a Happy MOther's day!
What I find funny is the hubs always tells others what a great/talented designer I am, what a great mom... but never to me.

My LOs aren't here yet, but I was touched to receive a few cards from DH and family and a few "happy mother's day" from family, friends, and strangers in the store!
I felt appreciated but it was a little strange being on the receiving end for the first time ever.
DH and I spoke about future mother's days, and we agreed that we'd like to create a perennial garden, building it each year with a new bulb/flower our boys/DH pick out for me. I think it'll be a sweet way to look back on past Mother's days. I started my own tradition this year with a beautiful lily plant I found yesterday!
As for "hallmark holidays", I've always celebrated them with my family, and my MIL works at Hallmark so I guess I'm continuing with it! lol

I felt weird accepting Mother's Day wishes but, I guess if you're pregnant you are a mother because you're carrying that little one around in you instead of outside of you.
I wasn't really expecting anything at all but my husband surprised me with a card (he had purchased BEFORE Sunday!) and a gift. He asked me if I wanted him to take me out to dinner or lunch and I told him no. We ended up going out anyways. He bought lunch, I bought dessert (froyo).

I told DH I didn't want anything and just wanted to eat out. He ended up surprising me with a gift!
Mother's day is still about me celebrating my mom.. but, I've had a great past 2 mother's days because I didn't expect DH to do anything for me and just wanted to have a chill day with my fam.

I love the idea of Mother's and Father's day, we work hard all year long being parents and it's nice to be appreciated!
We had special circumstances this year (DH is in the hospital recovering from surgery) so no, mother's day wasn't all that I expected it to be. But I know that my future mother's days will be, DH feels bad that he wasn't here to celebrate with me.

DH surprised me with a couple of small gifts and actually helping do dishes/fix dinner but all in all it was like any day in our house.

It was nothing I thought it would be, nothing I had anticipated and I was sad about it. I'm okay now...I think I just needed the weekend to end to get me out of my funk, which is why I went to bed at 9:30pm last night. :S

It was pretty much what I expected, since I"m not technically a mom yet DH did get me a card, which surprised me, and it was very sweet--made me cry!

I asked for a Mommy and Me photo shoot but got a fluffy pink robe. I'm not sure if I really like it. Was hoping for a drawing from LO.

We had a family BBQ and did small gifts for our moms the weekend before mother's day so that I could relax and do nothing on mother's day and I loved it! I got a sweet card from my husband and he also got one for me from LO and basically we lounged outside in the sun all day, ate our meals outside, and hung out...husband did all the laundry, clean up, dishes, and just made an extra effort to make sure to take care of everything so I didn't have to do anything. We aren't big into gifts bc we usually agree to buy things we really want/need without waiting for an occasion...but I consider my uppababy vista stroller my gift bc I really wanted it even though we didn't need such a pricey stroller

I love celebrating all holidays, whether created by Hallmark or not, especially if they are for appreciating loved ones!! Luckily Wagon Sr. feels the same way. And I'm still getting "Happy Mother's Day, Mommy"s from Wagon Jr. today! He practiced a lot over the weekend with Grandma.

We called this our pre-Mother's day (and next month will be pre-Father's day) since we want next year with LO to be the first official one we celebrate as a family
DH bought me some maternity clothes, took me out to brunch on Sat, and on Sunday gave me a flower arrangement and card "from baby"
We don't usually go big on hallmark holidays, like Valentine's/Sweetest Day/etc. But I think we'll def celebrate m/f days

We had our families over for brunch. I didn't have to lift a finger because DH did all the cooking and cleaning and he even got DD to "sign" a card for me and bring it to me (4 months). It was so cute to see her holding that card!

Hubs got me a card from the pup and a card from the baby in my belly. That was more than enough for me. He had also planned to make me a nice breakfat but I was really sick to my stomach all day so that didn't work out. But I appreciated the thought!

I wanted to warn folks here that Mother's Day often doesn't live up to the hype, but I didn't want to bring anyone down. Last year was a disaster, with clogged pipes, no water in the house, no food and no availability to go out to eat.
This year I got a card, flowers and breakfast. 1000% improvement!
