What do you use as motivation to get you to work out?
I need something!! Ugh I don't work out at all, and I really need to! I think the motivation I'm going to use is I need to lose 40-50 lbs before TTC.

Currently pregnant and I've hit the third trimester discomfort... this is what's motivating me to some sort of physical activity in the last couple of weeks. Working out ALWAYS makes me feel better than not!
After baby-- the 8+ lbs from preBFP and the 35+ I will likely have from pregnancy will be my #1 goal. I know that if I don't lose it, I physically won't be able to do a lot of things that I will want to do with LO, around the house, etc. And ditto, on the mental health!

Honestly, I wanted to look good, and the gym offered childcare so that gave me some "me time".

Mental health! I didn't even think about that. But it's sooo true, I always feel amazing after a workout!

That I Know I will feel a million times better after I work out. Also, I try to go in the mornings, and I know I won't be able to shower/have my full breakfast/get my day started til I work out, so that gets me going.

It is a lot easier to get motivated when you have an exercise that you enjoy. Is there a particular type you like? I like yoga, so there isn't much motivation required since I love it so much. It is easy to get myself there! Or maybe you can listen to an audio book you like while walking?
Also, having a buddy keep you accountable is really helpful for staying active long-term.

@highwire: I guess no there's really nothing I "enjoy" doing....An audiobook is an AWESOME idea though!!

@MrsBrewer: Are there any types of exercise you've never tried before? Swimming? Group exercise classes? Rock climbing? Cross fit? I bet there is something out there you might click with...
If not, then I'd definitely recommend something like the audio book to motivate you. Or something like "If I work out X times this week, I can get a manicure" Etc...Something non-fitness related can work wonders for motivation.

I definitely use my time at the gym as "me time". That's my #1 motivation since I'm a SAHM and its pretty much the only time during the week I'm alone! Plus I got a personal trainer to force me to go when I'd rather not

I try to think "outside" of the workout box so to speak, and use fun things to get active. Tennis, horseback riding, dog walks, hikes, the beach/lake, a state park, hula hooping, jump roping, ice skating, rollerblading, boxing, yoga..anything that gets me moving and not necessarily confined to a gym!
I also love bodyrocktv - which is a website you might want to check out. I do a 12 minute workout about 5+ times a week and it kicks my butt! I also love using "sandbags", which I actually made from an old duffel bag and some recycled tire mulch for 5 bucks from home depot! Give it a google if your interested.
and for the best results/motivation, I also kick my diet up a notch, as abs are made in the kitchen

@highwire: A gym membership really isn't in our budget right now unfortunately. I do have a treadmill though, and a ton work work out DVD's plus I'm sure I could find a ton of others online! I would LOVE to try some classes though sometime that sounds like a lot of fun!

keeping active and healthy during my pregnancy. i honestly think i'm in better shape during pregnancy than i have been in a long time in terms of working out regularly, etc.

@MrsBrewer: There are often free days or weeks at various gyms so if you don't mind hopping around, there are ways around a gym membership (although I realize some people might be offended by cheating the system like this).
You'll definitely be able to find free workout classes outside the traditional gym setting for free (free yoga classes, free boot camps, etc.) How big of a city do you live in?

@highwire: I actually live in a pretty big city, I don't mind sharing, I live in Milwaukee

Thanks for this post... I need motivation too! I joined a gym this summer but find myself rarely going these days. In fact, I was supposed to go this afternoon - I had the time - but I was too lazy

The only thing that has worked for me was to schedule it in. Its an expected part of my day, every day, so I only skip it if I'm really not feeling well.
Also, I'm self employed and I work from home, so its nice to have a break in the middle of my day with some social interaction

Pre-pregnancy, maintaining my weight and wanting to look good for DH. Pregnancy, so I don't gain too much weight and heard it helps with labor. Fingers crossed!

For good health, good looks, and feeling like a BAMF!
It may be hard at first but once you get into it, it can be addicting! Just try different things until you figure out what's fun and works for you!

obviously i work out for the physical & mental benefits but it's easy to get in a slump so the past few years i have been bribing myself with lululemon- i'm only allowed to wear it if i actually run or do crossfit. it sounds silly but it really works for me b/c i love sitting around/running errands/etc in workout clothes.
