I originally registered for the Snuza Hero but BRU has stopped carrying it. I know we can get it elsewhere but we were hoping to use gift cards. Does anyone have any other recommendations that BRU does carry? If not, I'll get the Snuza Hero. I know I'll need something when LO arrives!

I have the angel care monitor. With the movement detector. I like it and the video image is really good. My DH hates the alarm on the movement thing so he turns it off a lot! Have you looked at babies r us online?

I loved the Snuza. It really gave me peace of mind for the first 5 months or so!

Our daughter has apnea episodes where she will stop breathing and will not be able to start again unless we get to her in time. The AngelCare monitor saved her life. So obviously I'm a bit biased where it quite literally has changed our lives (our doctors told us if we hadn't had it that that she would've been a SIDS baby
) . I have heard good and bad things about the Snuza. Some kids won't tolerate it, or tear it off as they get older.

Pediatricians don't recommend these by and large. I've pulled the data on here before if you are interested. I know people still use them despite the recommendation.

We have the Angel Care. She's had a few times where it's gone off and several times where it just alert beeps. I don't mind and would never really know if it's s false alarm or not. Only time it's been false is when she scooted all the way to the corners. I just didn't want to deal with clipping the Snuza. So the mattress monitor was easier for me.

@ladybee: There is no credible evidence (aside from anecdotal) that these have prevented any cases of SIDS. (It's not even clear that there is a SIDS-apnea link)
It is also thought that these lull people into a false sense of security and gives alarm fatigue, so that kids in trouble actually don't get the attention they need when they need it. Let me see if I can find you the summary article

@Mrs. Jacks: Not to be over sensitive but my daughter's pediatrician would tend to disagree with you. Our monitor has picked up all five of Emma's episodes. I can tell you that having pulled my limp, unresponsive child out of her crib that the monitor certainly prevented her death. Whether or not that would be declared SIDS, thankfully I don't know because she lived, but our doctor certainly thinks so.

@JessicaMcB: I understand that people have stories like yours, but there is no demonstrable link between apnea and SIDS (as the article states) and if you monitored all babies, you would find apneic episodes universally.
That, of course, doesn't change your experience... and I am sensitive to that. It's just that the data doesn't bear it out. All of that is irrelevant in your case, because your experience is your experience

@Mrs. Jacks: Honestly, I feel like the movement monitor is simply to help my anxiety and to help me sleep once baby is here. I tend to be a worry wart

@ladybee: I think that's why pediatricians don't recommend them... because parents are lulled into a sense of security that doesn't really exist. Having said that, only you know what is right for your family and you have to do what YOU think is right

I completely understand what mrs. Jacks is saying. And insure these kinds of things get purchased a lot solely to alleviate some FTM fears. But the little extra sleep I got from both this and video monitor is worth it to me. Not to say I just didn't check on her anymore, but I could obsess over looking at both monitors without risking waking up our super-sensitive light sleeper.

@Mrs. Jacks: I so see what you are saying. However, my fear is that I'll drop the $100 and still worry constantly and never trust it. Any tips on over coming FTM fears?

@ladybee: I think we all have them. I was a total wreck! And just the fact that you are worried about this stuff means you are going to do terrifically!
The best thing I did to allay those "my baby is going to stop breathing in the middle of the night" fears was to have the girls sleep in our room (preferably in their crib or a pack and play). It was really nice to be able to hear their breathing. Plus my sleep cycle synced up with theirs, so I was waking right before they would wake needing me.
If you think this will help you allay those fears, then maybe it is worth it to you. For me, when those suckers wake me up, my heart pounds for 30 minutes, making my sleep less restful, but obviously the metrics come out different people.
I guess another option is to come home with your baby and see where you fall in the spectrum and whether that may be something that could benefit you.
