I JUST learned about these movement monitor things today and now I'm pretty sure I want one! Especially since we will be trying to have baby sleep in her nursery/crib as soon as possible.
Which one do you have if you use one and how do you like it?
Also, am I reading correct you put it under the mattress and not under the crib sheet? I just wonder how it can sense if baby stops breathing through the mattress?

I don't have one yet. LO is still in our room in her RnP sleeper. There has been a lot of discussion on the boards about the Angel Care monitors.

yes they go under the mattress because they are too hard to be directly under the sheet. I'm not sure how they work exactly and some of the reviews say they give a lot of false alarms, so we didnt get one

My BFF has an angelcare monitor and hates it. Her little man is a mover in his crib and often ended up out of the zone that the pad sensed him, causing it to alarm. So even if he STTN, at least once a week she was going in at 3am to move him back to quiet the alarm. We didn't bother with one, she was in our room in her own bed until she was 5.5 months, and by then we were comfortable with her being in her own room.

We have the Angelcare and LOVE it. It goes under the mattress, so it's best used with a crib mattress that is not memory foam. The sensor is super sensitive and can detect the tiniest motions. We have had a few False alarms. A few where she scooted herself into a corner and away from the sensor, and one when she was 2 months old that we don't know the reason for. It just went off and she was laying right on it. I grabbed her and shook her and she woke up. Terrifying. But truthfully Id rather deal
With a few false alarms than the alternative. We love ours

@prettylizy: How old is her little man that is a mover? I think I want it more for when they're really young and more at risk for SIDS? We'll probably try to keep baby in her nursery from the very beginning, at least once DH has to go back to work after 2 weeks.
@LivsMama: Ditto. I'd rather have a few false alarms than the alternative. Which Angelcare do you have? They have several different styles?

I've heard good things about the snuza! They have a couple different ones, but they attach to LO's diap rather than under the mattress so you can use it anywhere and one of them will vibrate to try to jar baby to breathe should it sense a lack of movement.

I bought an AngelCare monitor before DS was born. I was so terrified of SIDS. I never ended up using it.
I had no idea that newborns breastfed every two to three hours throughout the night and that I would have to set an alarm to wake myself up if he didn't wake up to eat throughout the night. Also, because he was breastfed, it was just easier to have him in the RnP next to my side of the bed for the first four months if either of us wanted any sleep. I ended up buying a video monitor later on when he started moving around in his crib/standing up. I wish I waited and bought a nicer video monitor.

I have a snuza halo. I love it! I like that you can use it in crib, rnp, pnp or traveling....it just attaches to his diaper.
The alarm has gone off maybe 5 times in the 2 months we have been using it. 2 of which it was obviously too loose and came off, and the other 3 times not sure if these were false alarms or if the vibration and alarms woke him.

We have an AngelCare and LOVE it. We've been using it since he moved to his crib at 4 weeks (now 17 weeks old). The only false alarms we've had happened when I took him out of the crib and forgot to switch off the monitor. It's brought me so much peace of mind!

Loooove our angelcare! No false alarms and we have it on the highest sensitivity so even when LO moves around and gets stuck in the corners of his crib, it still senses his movement.
The only times it goes off is when DH grabs him and leaves without turning it off. It's given me a heart attack but then I run in his nursery and I see DH, holding baby, and trying to turn the alarm off haha

@shopaholic: We had a scare early on (LO turned blue), so we invested in an Angel Care. We bought the cheapest one ($70?) because we already had the Motorola Video Monitor. The pad is really sensitive and we haven't had any false alarms except when we forgot to turn it off before taking DD out.

Aaack! After reading reviews for both AngelCare and Snua Halo, I almost feel like I want BOTH just for peace of mind! Can we say First Time Mom Paranoia?
@travelingbrit: Sounds great! I imagine you clip it in the front of the diaper? Like a calorie/step counter?
@Running Elley: Thanks for your comment, it makes me feel not as bad for thinking we'll keep baby in the nursery from pretty early on. Seems like most people keep baby in their rooms.

@TurtleDoves: @LaineysMom: Thanks ladies! I think the AngelCare does sound more useful and practical for everyday, while the Snuza sounds wonderful for traveling. I'm glad y'all are saying there are not too many false alarms as online reviews seem to make it sound like you get false alamrs/heart attacks every night!

@shopaholic: LO has always done really well in his room and sleeps better since he doesn't wake up to DH's early morning alarm/getting ready for work It's also helped establish a solid sleeping routine. Sometimes when LO is sick or I'm really tired I'll bring him into our bed but he's been in his crib in the nursery for a huge majority of the time!
Btw I hadn't heard of the snuza before and now I REALLY want one for travel/naps not at home! I'll definitely own up to being an ultra paranoid ftm

@Running Elley: That's really comforting to know! Our problem is opposite with DH being a super light sleeper. Glad you've joined the bandwagon for wanting both! LOL! I think I will get the AngelCare first. The more I read on the Snuza, the more it seems to give false alarms once babies start moving (i.e. rolling, wiggling).

If you do have too many false alarms you can adjust the sensitivity. We haven't had that problem so, I've just left it as is.. It was def. a great $70 investment.. It makes my worry much less at night.

I say get both
I always thought LO would go straight into his room and crib, but he sleeps so poorly there. Hes napping on the bed next to me right now with his snuza on.

We have the Snuza Hero and use it overnight - it gives me peace of mind! It's really easy to use and I like how small and portable it is. I even used it when J was sleeping in a bassinet in our room.

@shopaholic: we have the single sensor pad with 2 parents handheld units. I use it in conjunction with the Summer Infant BabyTouch video monitor. I think Id consider getting the model with the dual pads next time around though.

We have an Angel Care and a Snuza. The Angel Care has its flaws but still is pretty amazing - but honestly - I want a SafeToSleep Monitor for Baby #2 (if/when).

@shopaholic: also, I traveled with my Angelcare for months. I dont do it as much now, but I took it with me everywhere. The snuza would have been easier, but as soon as theyre old enough to roll over, it kind of becomes...not useless. But more difficult. If they roll over on top of it, its going to wake them up (Id presume anyways, because theyd be laying on it. I could be wrong.) But you can travel with the Angelcare.

@shopaholic: Ive flown with it too, It takes up like no room. The Snuza would be good while she is still an infant and immobile.
Also, we put liv in her crib right from day 4 home. I had her in a bassinet next to my bed, but I had PPD/A, and I was constantly convinced she was suffocating in there or something. I couldnt handle it. So we moved her into her crib and slept in the bed in there for a few weeks until I was comfortable enough moving back to our bedroom.

@LivsMama: Thanks for the details! We will be flying on a trip when she is about 3-4 months old. The Snuza might be more handy, but I think I prefer the AngelCare for daily use at home. Glad you were able to fly with it easily too. And 4 days - you give me hope that we can do it that early!

We have a snuza and I love it. We've only had 2 false alarms-I didn't put it on all the way, so it fell off. DS moves around a lot, so the Angelcare monitor wouldn't have worked for us. We actually clip the monitor to his pants instead of his diaper and it still works just fine.

We love our AngelCare. A mom that on a birth month board (Aug '11) lost their baby to SIDS and it really scared us. I sleep so much better with it on. We have had 2-3 false alarms but surprisingly it has never woken her up!!! We hear it going off at 2 pm or whatever and we go in to check on her and she will be curled up in a ball in the corner sound asleep!

I hated the angel care. Maybe we were using it wrong, but it was going off constantly. I was a nervous wreck anticipating that shrill sound. I love the audio monitor, though.

I had actually never heard of these until this post! I read it last night, lost some serious sleep after reading ecogirl's post, and since H is a total wiggleworm, I ordered the Snuza and overnighted it on Amazon Prime! I can't wait for it to get here tomorrow and I can sleep better!
I'm really scared about false alarms but I guess I'll get over it! H just turned 2 mos and I read that between 2&4 mos is the highest risk for SIDS. Oh Hellz No! I bought that thing ASAP!!!

@SlightFigureOfSpeech: did you have the sensitivity too low? We have ours at the highest, and only get false alarms when shes really crammed into the corner or against the end rails

@shopaholic: Well, I read where the Snuza is better for wigglers? I think she would definitely move too much for the AC. Last night we put her in her crib, square in the middle, lying vertical. This morning, she was at the top, lying perfectly horizontal:). So I thought if we had the AC she would move off of the sensor?

@PrincessBaby: B is a wiggler too, and we get a handful of false alarms. You just have to make sure the diaper is super tight before you put the snuza on.
Oh and i advise to read the manual. I didnt. It was beeping and i thought that meant low battery...when i read the manual to replace the battery, it turns out the beeping was due to 3 incidents of 15 seconds without breathing.
