I am so lucky to work where I work. It's a small company (about a dozen people after a recent division sale, 30 before that) but the owners are amazing. I like the work a lot, I'm more than fairly compensated, and the things they do for people astound me again and again. In lieu of a raise (which they wanted to hold off on discussing until this time next year for a few reasons I agree with -- because my role will be in part expanded when I come back from maternity leave next spring so they don't really know how to address my salary right now), they are giving me 8 weeks paid maternity leave on top of the 6 weeks that are paid through disability. They gave me the parking spot right next to the building, with a sign. And they just gave me a bunch of baby stuff today -- including an expensive Graco swing, an activity mat, and a bunch of baby clothes -- from their youngest boy.
Another employee just had his motorcycle stolen so they took up a collection and matched what everybody else gave 100% and bought him a used car. I'm pretty sure they had to kick in extra money to cover it. I couldn't believe they did something like that, it actually made me want to cry.
I just have a lot of gratitude and wanted to share. I was so unhappy at the job I had before this one, that I can't believe how different the situations are.
