I'm very sorry for your loss. I think you're doing all the right things for your LO. Big big hugs... thinking of you.
DH's mom died recently, so we're also trying to figure out how to help the kids cope. They're 3 and 5. It really hurts that she's always been in their lives, so they're feeling the loss just as much as we are, in their own ways. And that DD may forget her eventually, because she's so young. DH made his mom a photo book a few weeks before she died, and he's been showing it to the kids and all the visitors. I guess we'll answer their questions as they come up

I’m so sorry. My dad died April 30, but my daughter is 4. I did the same as you and told her he had gone to heaven. She’s had questions since and I tell her the truth. She has since told us that Jesus comes to daycare and takes all the kids to heaven to see Opa (my dad) for ice cream. Your LO will process it in their own way and it will be ok. Eventually.
