@MsMini: thanks for checking in Bees! We're trying to get my younger sister who lives in DC to see if they'll let her see my dad. If they do, I'll fly to DC ask to see him and basically steal him back.

They issued a protective order today and are getting paperwork to appoint a guardianship for my dad which will hopefully go to my mom.

The worst is just waiting for the legalities to be worked out. I feel so helpless and can't stand that he's being kept from all of us and all that's familiar to him. He must be confused and scared

Update! My mom was in court today. The judge decided to appoint a temporary third party guardian to go to Virginia. Their job will be to spend several days with my father and report back next week with their determination of wether my father is competent or not. I am confident that they will find him not to be and force them to return him home.

It's unbelievable some of the things they've done and I still feel pretty helpless. Hoping he comes back soon.

Update: court finally ordered yesterday that he be brought home within 7 days!!!! So glad this is all over

Thanks everyone! It did take wayyyy too long and I'm sure they'll drag my mom to court to fight over guardianship or power of attorney or whatever else they can think of, but at least I know he's going to be home with my mom.
