Do you say 'My nephew/ niece' or 'Our nephew/niece'?
I know that technically it is 'our' nephew but I say 'my nephew' because my nephew is from my side of the family.
If my brother-in-law had a son, I would probably say that it's his nephew.
It's only really for distinction purposes. So other people know to look at me or him to figure out which side had the baby. (My brother and SIL just had their second son. Yay! I'm a happy aunt.)

I always say "my" or "his" when talking to others so ppl know who I'm talking about.

I still say "my niece" or "My sister-in-law" (Though is she even my husband's SIL? I dunno). It's just habit!

I mostly say my niece/nephew and they are on DHs side. I'm also an honorary aunt to my BFFs little guy and I call him my nephew as well

I say "my" niece, because I've known her mom (DH's sister) since she was 13. Plus she's the first niece/nephew on either side.

I call them his nephews and my nephew. It's too confusing to say "our" in my opinion.

I say ours. Right now we only have one niece, dhs brothers daughter. But I'm her aunt, and she's my niece.

I don't have any nieces or nephews! But if I did, doesn't matter which side it came from, I'd probably say "my".

I usually say my unless I'm telling a story with DH, then I say our. They are from my side, so maybe that's also why I say my. Congrats on the birth of your nephew!

I usually say my nephew for DH's side. I am an only child so I do not need to distinguish sides for that.

I think it depends on how old they are when you come into their lives. Like my aunt (my mom's SIL) has been around since before we were born and considers me and my bro her niece and nephew.
My husband's sister was much older than him and I didn't meet his niece and nephew until they were 13 and 16. I usually refer to them as his, but sometimes ours. I just feel like I've only known them for a couple of years and it's weird to call them "MINE".
