I was having a hard time with post-partum pain. My perineum was seriously hurting and not getting better almost 4 weeks pp. It hurt to sit, to walk for prolonged periods, to pee, to poo... I had felt myself in the shower and I felt hard, being a first-time mom I just assumed it was swelling. On Sunday I thought, "this has been way too long, I shouldn't be this swollen still". So I had a little look in the mirror and it wasn't swelling at all...It was a huge cotton compress that a mid-wife had put in me to disinfect my tear and had forgotten!!! So for 3+ weeks I was experiencing all this pain due to her huge mistake. I called my mid-wife (not the one who left the compress - she was one of the clinic's ladies) and she had me come in immediately. She removed the compress which was huge (think small, erect penis size) and checked me out. Thankfully, I do not have an infection and seem to be healing well. I am so lucky that I didn't get toxic shock, it could have been much worse. It has made a world of difference and I feel so much better now. I can't believe I suffered for 3 weeks like that!
I wanted to post this as a sort of PSA for the pregnant ladies, post-partum pain should get better in time. If it doesn't or gets worse, there is something wrong and you should contact your care provider. I kept assuming that I was just taking a long time to heal and brushing off the pain I was feeling. If I had listened to my body instead of telling myself this was what post-partum must feel like, I would have realized what was wrong much sooner.
