It doesn’t matter how tight we make it. She manages to slide down the top buckle from chest level down to her stomach, then wrench one arm at a time out of the straps. We have a Britax Marathon.
I can’t figure out a way to keep her from doing it. Any ideas??

@Hypatia: Is she rear or forward facing? Are the straps at the proper height? Often over tightening the straps will cause kids to mess with them more.

@catgirl: Forward facing. We’ve adjusted hem so they’re loose (more than they should be really) all the way to really tight, but it doesn’t seem to matter—she just wants the freedom of having her arms out so that she can bend over the seat, etc.
I think the straps are at the proper height, but I’ll double check that just to be sure!

@Hypatia: Make sure the straps are above her shoulders. Unfortunately there's nothing to add to add to the seat that can prevent kids from messing with them.
It's so hard when kids mess with the seat, when DD was 2.5 she learned how to loosen the straps. She was still rear facing so it was extra hard to catch her doing it. We planned a weekend of super fun things that she REALLY wanted to do and told her if she messed with the straps at all we would go home and try again the next day. The first day she messed with them on the way to our first activity and we went straight home. The next day she messed with it about half way through the day, and once again, we went straight home. It seemed to click after that and she stopped.

SUCCESS! We don't have a button down shirt, but we have a short sleeve dress that buttons up, so we used that to cover up the straps. She bucked her hips and whined a few times, but she seems to have accepted the fact that there's no way she can get out of the straps now. It seems to help that she can't actually see them, either--kind of out of sight, out of mind.
