Do you usually buy name brand or store brand items? There are some things I have to get name brand, just because I've tried the store brand version and didn't care for it,but if the store brand is comparable I will usually buy that to save money.

It really depends on the store for me. Do you folks in the states have President's Choice? I love lots of their products, and will most often opt for them, but if I am at other shops, I will tend to go with name brand.

@woodentulip: I luuuuuurrrve PC brand, they have the best stuff. Some things you have to go name brand for though, like Kraft Mac n Cheese, no contest. Butter/eggs, doesn't matter to me.

@banana: We don't have a super close Costco so I've never had the chance to try out Kirkland brand, but we have a store called Meijer and it's pretty big around us and in the states surrounding and I like a lot of their store brand items. Some places like Wal-mart and the like, just don't have as good of store brand items, so I'll opt for the name brand in that situation.

@Bao: lol! the last few times i brought dh with me to help with the baby and my bill jacked up over $10. from him insisting on all name brand and not-on-sale stuff. all those "only 50 cents more!!" add up, geez!

Oh totally store brand for me. All the way. I remember my dad telling me a story about how he went to a sugar packing plant and how at a certain time they simply switched the bags from C&H to the store brand. It was literally the same. exact. thing. Store brand 4eva. Plus my mom was always really cheap growing up and buying name brand was sacrilegious.
@sorrycharlie: @Bao: heck yeah they do!

Just depends on the item. I buy beans in the cheapest store brand possible, because they're all the same. But some things that I notice a difference, like tomato paste, I'll only buy certain brands.
