I have a nephew and a cousin with the same never. We never see each other, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Even if it did offend people, you don't really see them to have to deal with their anger.

I'm curious as to the name you chose now...

I say go with what you want and don't care about much else. We had the hardest time agreeing on a name and didn't have one until the 2nd day at the hospital. It was tough and I would have loved to have had a name we both loved earlier, no matter how popular it was. They're popular because they're great names!

You know, I used to think this was an issue and then I realized
1. My cousin's middle name is my brother's first name. They are less than a year apart and close.
2. A generation ago: My dad and his cousin (he only has 2 first cousins!) both have the same name. No. Really. I never even thought about it--just like @tejbee
(My grandma and her brother both chose the same name for their boys.)

My sister has the same name as our cousin (not first cousin ) and it was never an issue. Plus it's not common at all so it was obvious my mom copied.

I wouldn't worry about it. My sister and I "fought" over who gets to use my daughters name (she's named after our father David). In the end I used it because I was the one pregnant first. Plus, she wanted a different variation of the name and I told her that in 10 years when she has kids she should still use it (they would be cousins with the same first name).

I wouldn't mind if it was a common name!

I say pick the name you love!

Go for what you love! Our LO's got the #4 girls name like a pp said...they're popular for a reason!

i say go for it - especially since it's a common name and you don't see the cousin all that often

if its a name you love, stick with it!

I have two male cousins within a few years of each other with the same rare name! No one ever talks about the fact that one aunt was clearly "inspired" by the other! They just tell us Walter Cronkite was popular at the time

It sounds like this particular cousin is far enough on the family tree that you shouldn't feel bad at all!

My dad's cousin named her daughter my first and middle name-- I was honored and I know my parents never minded. I was a flower girl at their wedding so it felt extra special to me, though we hardly ever saw them. Their second daughter is named the same as my younger sister. Neither are SUPER common names.

So, I say go for it. If anything, you are saying they have good taste. That said, I wouldn't do it with a first cousin (like, your sister's kid and your kid).

I am also curious as to what it is. I'm guessing Isabella.

My cousin wanted to name her son the same name as another cousin and I told her not to To me it's confusing for the rest of the family to not know which kid you're referring to.

Even though they live on another continent, our family is quite close, so to me it would depend on your family.
