So after scrapping DH's original name choice and going through pretty much every name out there, we FINALLY chose a name for our little one. It's a common name, but we decided not to take popularity into account since it was hard enough agreeing on a name, and a popular name isn't a huge deal anyway.

We then found out that DH has a cousin (his dad's half brother's grandchild) that is named the same name. She's about 10. We NEVER see her and didn't even know her name until today, even though we do see her grandparents and aunt. It is a small side of the family (but spread around the country!) so there are only a few kids (one of which has another name we almost chose til we remembered her!)

We are planning to stick to our name choice. Would you be offended if someone else in your family picked your child's name? Would the fact that it is very common factor into it?
