Um yeah, enough said on the title I'm not even going to click on that!!!

This is horrible. A commercial for the 11 o'clock news just came on that talked about this story. Ugh.

I can't even bring myself to read the article............ so so so sad

I just don't know how I would survive it if something like this happened to my baby. Another news source says that the mom was arriving home with her three year old daughter. I am feeling so sick about the state of humanity right now.

Oh dear g-d... As if I don't have enough to worry about!

I'm NOT reading that! The title alone makes me want to take my baby and attach him to me forever-never leaving my side!

I would go crazy.
Seriously, just goes to show you can't trust anyone..

I cannot imagine what being that mother must have been/be like! Just thinking about it made me sick to my stomach!
I SERIOUSLY hope that nanny survives and stands trial!

I live in NYC, so this story is really hitting home for me. My heart breaks for that mother and I just shudder with horror at something so tragic.

So horrific! I can't imagine what that family is going through or what drove the nanny to do what she did...

this hit really close to home. we lived in the same neighborhood. I even knew a nanny who took care of a boy also named Leo who is almost 2 years old, who lived in that area of the UWS. I feel disgusted that this happened. My heart and prayers go out to that family.

I know.. I went to see why there were helicoptors everywhere on my way home from the grocery store last night and the scene was unfolding - NYPD detectives everywhere and the street was blocked off. I could barely sleep last night thinking about those poor babies. The Mom had a blog about "The little Krim kids" and it's absolutely heartbreaking to read

I live on the same street that this happened but a few avenues away!! So so so messed up

They have pictures of the children on ABC. Unbelievably sad,

I read the article. I'm in shock. When they described the acorns, I thought of Mrs. Bee's post about Charlie. I can not help but tear up. I would go crazy.

this is one of the worst stories i've ever heard. I cannot imagine......
and.. I'm not usually someone who applies the news to myself and says "what if that happened to me" but being pregnant with my 1st and planning on getting a nanny so I can go back to work... I just can't help but be so scared. how can we trust anyone?
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I wish they wouldn't use pictures of the kids. It's just too sad already. I mean, I want more info, but they are combing through the family's facebook pages and linked in profiles, plus the blog... I know it is all out there for public consumption, but it just feels too invasive right now. It's just so, so sad.

@charlotte: You can do lots of reference checks, and a criminal background test on your nanny.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
I read that the nanny had only been with them for 2 days? I wonder if they did a background check on her.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@mrbee: @charlotte: And, there are thousands and thousands of nannies in NYC, and this is unheard of. That's what I'm telling myself. It's just a horrible, freak, thing, but not indicative of something you should worry about happening to you.

@Foodnerd81: I think it's ok to worry! But all you can do is take every possible precaution...

The NYT said they just got back from visiting/staying with the nanny's *family* in the Dominican Republic and considered her family.. I'm relatively sure she'd been with them longer than 2 days. I guess the mom had posted that on her blog. This is so horrific

I was left speechless last night when I heard about this story. Absolutely heartbreaking. I can't even begin to imagine what this family is going through.
@Andrea I've seen and heard multiple reports that the nanny had been with the family for a year, but I think there's several conflicting reports on some of those details. I did hear that the family had recently been to the Dominican Republic with her and met her family.
