My 10 week old baby sleeps beautifully during the night, usually getting around 12 hours. She sometimes takes up to an hour to go down and wakes 1-2 times per night to feed - but she's a 10 week old baby, I'm cool with that.

Her naps, however, are a different story and she's driving me slowly insane! Her cues are easy to read and she gets tired after about an hour of play. If I miss her cues, she starts crying pretty quickly but if I put her down for a nap she will sleep for 1/2 hr maximum before waking. It's obvious she is still tired, she is still grizzling and yawning and her movements are jerky but she WILL NOT go back to sleep. I give her a dummy and her eyes close for a few seconds but then she wakes again even more mad than before!

Question 1:

Would you keep her in bed until the desired duration of the nap is over, reinserting her dummy every time she spits it out and wails, hoping she will go back to sleep or at least start to learnt going forward that nap time is an hour minimum? Or would you get her up, even though she is tired?

Yesterday, I tried option 1 and she just got more and more upset and less and less able to sleep. By 5pm, she was the saddest most exhausted baby I've ever seen!!! Today, I'm trying option 2 but she's already exhausted (at midday) and it has thrown her off her EASY schedule because she is now dozing off on her bottle!!!! AGH!

So WWYD? Keep enforcing nap time a'la option 1 and hoping it sticks. Or get her up when she's still tired (but doesn't want to sleep), let her take 1/2 naps and balls to the schedule?!

Question 2:

She loves to be swaddled at night but FIGHTS it for naps. But she has what I call Menace-Hands that jerk about the place, smacking her in the face and ripping her dummy out. She then tries to suck on them but gets super frustrated (screaming quite angrily!) because she cant get a good suck and they keep pinging out of her mouth!!! Ugh.

So WWYD? Would you swaddle (and make her mad - but at least able to sleep maybe/perhaps/hopefully) or just leave her to figure the hand situation out (and make her mad - oh lord, it's hardly a choice is it?!). Waaaahhhhh!

Naps are going to be the death of me!!!
