We are also nap training, but today is day 3 with my MIL doing it during the week when she watches LO. He seems to be crying more with her. I secretly think it's because she's not doing it right even though I've explained the process. Last time I spoke to her he cried 17 mins, I was wondering am I just being paranoid or does nap training take longer? When I was putting him down for naps this weekend, he didn't cry this much. Sigh...

nap training is definitely harder. at night, they're already tired so it's easier to fall asleep. but in the daytime they really need to learn how to fall asleep by themselves.
the first few days i nap trained charlie, it went great! when our nanny took over, even though she was doing the same things, it totally fell apart. i think charlie was just more used to me, and i was hyper obsessive about looking for sleep cues, winding down stimulating play/light, and finding that perfect sleepy but not overtired interval.
hopefully your mil can stick to it, because consistency really is the key. once charlie was nap trained, anyone could put him down and he went to sleep!

@Mrs. Bee: Thanks, Mrs. Bee. it's been heartbreaking to hear from my MIL that he's crying nonstop. It doesn't help that she doesn't believe in CIO to begin with and this kinda seems to affirm her suspicions. I've been just feeling crappy today like maybe she's right, sigh, even though I know she's not.

@Clementine: i made the awake intervals even shorter than i thought they should be (90 minutes at 5 months), and that's when he started sleeping better. 2 hours was way too long.
hopefully you can make big strides this weekend when you're in charge of naps?

@Clementine: I just started to nap train today, and it is heartbreaking! It's been a battle for him to nap more than 30-45 minutes, so it is time to start. The toughest thing is to stick to our guns, because we know it will pay off in the near future! Good luck with it! It's good that your MIL is abiding by your wishes, despite her opinion on CIO.

@marriedandlovingit: she gave me an earful again about crushing his spirit. sigh. i will admit tho he seems down lately, not smiling or laughing. i am sure it could be anything including just being tired with the sleep training as Mrs. Bee mentioned, but then I feel guilty like maybe this isn't for him, but in terms of night sleep training he's doing great just not with naps. he cried 0ver 40 mins each time. #guiltymom
