My husband and I are not big drinkers and only have alcohol--a bottle of beer or a glass of wine, generally--during a party or holiday meals. In the long term, my husband is in favor of allowing the kids to partake in a very limited way; for example, having a tiny glass of wine at a holiday meal when they are older. I am ok with this in theory, although I don't know exactly how the logistics would work. (What age? What occasions? etc.)
But in the meantime, I am thinking about Thanksgiving and the fact that our two-year old is going to be very interested in everyone's wine glasses. Because he is two! and wants to do what everyone else is doing. (I was thinking he could have some apple cider--generally a special occasion treat for him--in one of our small sturdy wine glasses, so that he could be part of the group. But then I wonder if I just need to draw a line for him on the wine/wine glass issue. Or I am just overthinking it.)
In general, he gets to eat and drink (in moderation) whatever we have. The only exceptions are coffee (which we have around him but he has learned is strictly off-limits for him) and soda (which we just don't drink around him.)
Wondering how other people handle food/drink that is for adults but not children.
