Does anyone have the NEST thermostats?? Should we splurge a little and get them? Seems like we could save in the long run with these smart thermostats, and I like that you can program remotely!!

I don't know how it would work in our house since the thermostat is in a back hallway. There would be no way for it to sense when we are home or not.
Also, I believe Google just bought this which makes me a bit leery.
There are lots of digital programable thermostats you can buy. We love ours. We just program for each day of the week, what temp (and time) we wake, when we leave the house, when we return to the house, and when we go to bed.

Nay!
My husband wanted it so badly, but he found a less expensive option.

I have a similar (I think?) and cheaper one from Honeywell and I love it. I can control it from my iPhone!

DH just bought one this weekend. We're a gadget family, so I love that I can turn up the heat with an app on the way home, but I'm not totally sold whether it's worth the $$ yet or not. There is a $100 rebate if you have gas heat from certain providers (National Grid is one around here)

DH and I have looked in to it a little for our office, but we haven't done a lot of research so we're not sure if it's the best value.

We've had programmable thermostats for a while now and decided not to get a Nest. But we do love using a wifi programmable thermostat! They make life so much easier and save money.

We LOVE ours! It has helped a bit with energy savings and I also love the fact that I can change the temperature from bed. Clearly, that's the perk for me

We've had it for a while now, and totally love it!! There are so many great features and we've definitely saved money already. It's awesome

@cheert16: Until about a month ago we were using Trane thermostats with Nexia, which controls our thermostats, lights, locks, etc.

Other than being able to control the temp from your phone, what are the other advantages over a programmable thermostat? I quickly scanned through their website and didn't really understand the hype.

We love it! It came with our house and it is so nice. If we forget to turn the heat down when we leave for a weekend away, we can do so from our phone, and we can turn it on on our way home.

@autumnlove: I saw that Honeywell one at Lowes the other day- do you love it? I really want to make the switch- just trying to get DH onboard!

@DillonLion: hahahaa - YES!! That's what got me re-thinking!
@spaniellove: do you like? Is it more or less expensive than Nest??
@autumnlove: maybe we will check this out too.
Thanks all - sounds like those that have it love it!!

@T.H.O.U.: I saw that while researching about the Google purchase....makes me want to wait a bit.
I like that NEST adapts... The programmable ones in our house are not good - def need something new.

@cheert16: Yes, I love it and I have schedules programmed for each day.
I have the box in my messy office...

YES!! I love love ours. I didn't what the big deal was when DH wanted it but so worth it. We installed it during the day and then my water broke that night. We forgot to turn the heat off and it did it for us. Came home 3 days later and it knew were gone. At Christmas when we were gone, when we were an hour away we turned the heat up so we wouldn't freeze when we got home. We turn the heat up and down from bed all the time.

@autumnlove: Was this from Costco? I feel like I just saw something similar there.

Yay! LOVE our next. It's been great. We were going to go with a cheaper programmable option but found out our furnace needed a specific kind that was only like $50 less than the nest.

@T.H.O.U.: I think DH bought it at Lowe's or Home Depot.

We had it and it worked well for a while, and then started malfunctioning. Now that Google just bought it, we wouldn't ever consider reinstalling it.

@hellobeeboston: it goes beyond that, but that is part of it. DH is involved in the tech world and hates Google with a passion.

My SO is in heating and cooling, and he plans on installing one of these in our home. It seems very expensive (to me) for what it is, but that's his area so I'll trust his decision
