The temperature thread got me curious about programmable thermostats. If you have one, what brand? Do you like it?
We turn the heat down when we leave and I'd love to be able to start warming the house back up a little bit before we come home.

We have an Ecobee 3, I love it. I think it would be even better if we didn't have in home child care, because then we could use the Geo fence option. Basically you can draw a line around your house at whatever distance you want, when your device with the app enters the Geo fence, the thermostat switches to your home setting, when you exit the Geo fence it switches to your away settings.

We have Trane ones. They came free when the d owners replaced out ac. I hate them, passionately. The downstairs one the touch screen is all messed up and hard to manage. You have to pay a monthly fee to have their app in order to change them away from home (and I hear the app is dreadful) they're from late 2015 so they aren't even that old and have been awful since we moved in (March 2017)
I want to replace them with nest but basically I'm likely stuck with them until the downstairs one actually totally breaks

We have a nest and really like it. It has a schedule which is great, and it learns our general habits but it also has a location feature connected to an app on our phones which turns the system on when we get within a 5 mile radius of our house.

@MamaBear87: just so happen carry a bat/hammer/meat tenderizer/big stick past it, and accidentally/on purpose break it đ¤ˇââď¸

@Sams Mom: I was just going to replace it and shrug when hubby asked but the back has to be rewired which I can't do myself so I have to wait for my dad to be around

@MamaBear87: dude, the color codes are SUPER easy to rewire, and take a pic before you unhook anything so if it has to go back it can be be put back

Nest. I installed it myself (pats self on back). We love it. It plays nicely with our alexa also.

We also have an ecobee and I really like it. We have issues with temperature differences between the rooms in our house and the additional sensors help to even things out and make sure our kids rooms are at a consistent temp.
I like being able to adjust the temperature from bed if needed especially when changing seasons and inconsistencies in weather.

We have a Nest and love it. It did take some getting use to when we first installed it but no complaints now.

@Sams Mom: I think it's like taking off the back panel piece and making new wires. I'm decently handy and the YouTube video looked decently difficult

We have an Ecobee. I like it - I especially like how it has the sensors that you can put around the house, because my youngest son's room tends to be really cold - this way I can make sure the temp isn't too low in there.

We don't have Nest or Ecobee, we have touch screen ones that my husband hooked up to our data hub somehow.

We are on our second nest. One of the first things we bought for our new house.

We have Sensi Thermostat for our upstairs and downstairs that is also hooked up together with Alexa.

We have a Nest and love it! It is so nice being able to control the temp from my phone, so I can change it when we are out of the house. Sometimes even if I'm in the house, I use my phone to change it, because it's more convenient than walking across the house to the thermostat

We have the Nest and it is connected to our Google Home, so we can change the settings by voice. It is also super convenient to have it turn to away from home and be able to prep the house to be the right temp when you get home.
It has been good for our family to have a decent range type thermostat (our old ones were just one temp) and when DH isn't super attentive, I nudge the range one degree or so in the eco-friendly direction from my phone.
My daughter also had a really rough night one night and chucked all her blankets away but I didn't want to go in and put them back on because I didn't want another meltdown... so I just turned the temp up from bed
I will also say that the wires are a little scary looking, but it basically boils down to stick the red wire in the C hole, green wire in B, etc. Just take a pic of the old thermostat setup so you can replicate it without having to lookup old directions.

We have the Nest but then we had our electrical panel replaced. Our Nest still works but can't connect to the wifi. So now we just have a very expensive programmable thermostat and can't use it for it's intended purpose. We have the Ring doorbell and it did the same thing but we were somehow able to get that back up and running.

We have an ecobee 4. Itâs the same as the 3, but it has Alexa built in. Iâll talk specifically about that, since other people have covered the sensors already.
The good:
- We have two thermostats, and one of them is in the kitchen, so being able to set multiple timers for cooking is awesome.
- You can play music from it.
- You can make announcements from itâif I say, âAlexa, announce, âDinner is ready!ââ The announcement plays on all our other Alexa devices.
The bad:
- Amazon hasnât let third party apps in on it yet (though theyâve announced thatâs coming), so when you play music on it, itâs through Amazon music. No Spotify playlists or what have you.
- It is less sensitive to my voice than our Dotsâsometimes I have to get closer or yell like a crazy person. This might be fixed in time.
- You canât use it to Drop In on your other Alexa devices. Thatâs dumb.
- You canât sync your music across all your devices (my Dots can play the same song in different rooms, but not the ecobee). Thatâs even more dumb because since announcements work, I think the capability is already there. Again, Iâm hoping this changes in a future update to the software.
If money is a concern, youâd be better off just getting the Ecobee 3 and buying a Dot when itâs on sale. With that said, this saves us from having two more devices taking up space. And they do update their software regularly, so itâs entirley possible my issues wonât be permanent. I still give it five stars!

We have Nest learning thermostats. Turns out I hated the âlearningâ part and turned that off pretty immediately so we overpaid for that. But I love them otherwise!
Have both on a detailed schedule that keeps us all comfortable and keeps the system off when weâre gone. Our energy use has gone down noticeably since we got them. And I never wake up hot or freezing in the night or come home to a sweltering house. Love being able to change things from my phone too!
