I'm 23 weeks along and I'm having issues with my OB/GYN's office and am wondering if I should switch. It's getting kind of late in the game though. I like my doctor, but her office just seems like kind of a mess. I choose it because it was attached to the hospital I was planning to deliver at (in the same building), so I thought that might make it easier.
1. They lost my initial screening bloodwork. At my second appointment they asked me why I never went to the lab to complete the screening. When I told them I had completed it 4 weeks ago they went back and found some blood work listed under someone with the same name and a similar birthday (just the month off) that they thought might be mine but weren't sure. So I had to redo all the bloodwork over again.
2. When I went to redo the labwork, they gave me the workorder and I went to the hospital lab. When I got there, the lab informed me that I had been given the wrong workorder....it had someone else's name, DOB, SSN, and lab order on it completely! Seems like a major HIPPA issue.
3. They called me two weeks after one of my appointments to tell me I had a UTI (they usually do the testing right there- not sure why it took two weeks?) and they were calling in a prescription for me. I went to the pharmacy that night and they had no record of the prescription and by that time the office was closed for the weekend and the answering service said they couldn't page the doctor for prescriptions so I had to wait another three days to get antibiotics to clear up the UTI that I've already had for over two weeks.
4. Their billing department is a mess. At my 20 week appt they showed me a summary of what we would owe for all the appointments and labor/delivery. I offered to pay the fee right upfront but they told me they would send monthly bills and when I received the bill I could pay the entire cost instead of just the monthly charges. I went in yesterday and the receptionist treated me like I was a deadbeat and stated very loudly, "You haven't made ANY of your monthly payments!" We haven't gotten a bill for any of them yet! I offered again to pay the full amount upfront instead of doing monthly charges and this time they took the money. I won't be surprised if we still get a bill again. She also stated that I didn't have any information in their system like my emergency contact or insurance information even though I had been going there for for my whole pregnancy and had provided them that info on the first visit.
5. They seem to forget various things. I had to ask for my TDAPP even though I had it listed on my chart, at one appt I was supposed to have an utlrasound to check the status of an ovarian cyst but they forgot to schedule it, and the PA told me she was putting in the lab order for my glucose test and they'd have it up front for me, but when I went up there they didn't have it and I had to wait an extra half an hour while they tried to figure out where it went.
I'm pretty easy going, and I haven't complained at all to the office about any of this yet (who do I complain to? an office manager maybe?) but these issues keep piling up and I'm getting concerned about the quality of care I might be receiving at this office and the hospital. Would you switch this late in the game?
