This would have been awesome in some of my previous roles. I put in long hours and don't feel like I was fairly compensated.

Doesn't apply to me, but I think it's a good move.

We live abroad and my husband's company doesn't pay overtime per se, but you can accumulate overtime hours and take up to 5 additional paid vacation days per 6 months (so there's a potential of earning 10 extra paid vacation days per year). I think that's a fair arrangement too!

I'm not sure if I'm for or against it because I don't know what our company is going to do. They are currently doing away with some perks (water cooler, free coffee, soft drink machine), so I can't imagine that they would bump us up to the minimum. I also earn comp time for hours worked over 35 (what we get paid for), so they may cut back on how many of us work overtime for events. We'll see. ETA: I am salaries but make about 8k less than the minimum per year.

My husband is hourly. He regularly works overtime but because his per-hour rate is so high, they just pay straight time. I imagine they will bump them to salaried to get out of it, but he also makes less than the minimum. Especially during bat season, when he often works upwards of 70 hours per week, it's going to be huge for the company. They might also take on less work.

I work at a large institution (state university) so it affects A LOT of people. I imagine that they will let every department do what they want, either by converting salaried people to hourly, or raising the salaries of people who make close to the new threshold.

In my specific department there would only be two people affected by this, and I am one of them. I don't work much overtime, but the other person does. I believe that we both have salaries within 2-3k of the threshold, and optimistic me hopes this means we will both get a raise!! I think that the minor inconvenience of raising salaries will greatly outweigh the major inconvenience of having us track our hours and pay overtime.

Won't affect my household at all but I do think it's great. The previous threshold of $23K/year to be working more than 40hours week and not making over time seems crazy to me.

At my first job out of college (I stayed there for 3 years) they worked me so hard. It was a small e-commerce company and I easily worked 50-60 hour weeks making between $32-44K in the time I was there. Now that I have experience working at other companies and now that's not acceptable, I would have totally quit but I didn't know any better. I think I deserved to make overtime pay and feel others in the same type of situation should. The company owners were super rich so they could have easily afforded it.
