Not trying to start a debate, but this article reassured me a bit. I havent looked closely at the study but the few things I have read sound encouraging for Moms who choose or are forced to formula feed!

There was a thread about this study not too long ago:

ETA: I think this one was about that study, too:

@citymouse: Thanks for posting this, I didn't see it the first time. I enjoyed reading the other threads - I was particularly amused to see how quickly a couple of those in the best-is-best corner jumped to discredit the article in any way they could!! I read the article Mrs Jacks linked to which took a more scientific approach to discrediting it - and so I don't feel superior for FFing my kid or anything!- but I enjoyed their instant refusal to to even entertain the idea that breastfeeding might not be the most amazing thing ever all the same!!!

@Espion: I love this! And in some ways how seriously a few people took it in the comments was even funnier!

I actually read an interesting blog post and a subsequent comment on this article over on the Evolutionary Parenting website, I'll try and find it and post the link.

Here's the link to the blog post I mentioned, the comments by Georgia Peach (towards the end of the comments) are worth the read.

I do think that (In the US at least), we have a million other things that affect an infant's first 2 year of life that should/could be focused on more than breast vs formula. Like....hello, some kind of mandatory paid maternity leave, longer maternity leave, automatic healthcare for pregnant moms and babies, etc.
The US already has rising BFing rates and the remaining percentage of people who don't bf have formula, which is great! Infant nutrition problems = solved, in my mind.
Let's move on to more important things.

@Cherrybee: Totally. I don't feel superior or vindicated, just comforted about the fact that we FF!
@Espion: Haha, love that!
@Kemma: Really interesting. Great perspective!
@Anagram: Very true!!

@Anagram: Right! What they have in common is *Feeding* . . . which is where our focus should be!
