Didn't watch the video, but when we did our elective gender scan, it was annoying that we had to stand for a long time because the couple after us got there early and brought so many people (family and friends on both sides) that they more than filled the facility and wanted to go ahead of us. It didn't occur to them that there are actually pregnant people involved and an ultrasound is still a medical procedure.

At our hospital there are such strict rules for the 20w ultrasound. Only one other person allowed and that person is only allowed in for the last 10 minutes or so. No pictures given and no recordings allowed !

It was kind of a bummer because I was alone for the majority of my ultrasound while dh sat outside until he could come in to get a quick peek. My doctor was nice and gave me a photo at my next appointment because I begged for one haha

I wish my hospital was a little lax, but I totally get that it can quickly turn into a circus!

I don't think i'd want a ton of people at an ultrasound. If be way too worried that they'd have bad news(ie, miscarriage). Plus, I liked that it was just me and DH

I watched this video yesterday and when she said sonogram parties are a new trend... I thought to myself "suuuuuure, sure they are". Thinking that's not true lol. Inviting close family to elective ultrasound? Yes. Party at your house? Nope.

The video is blocked for me at work, so the idea is that you host a party at your house, and someone wheels in a sonogram machine that you've been able to rent?

Sounds weird to me.

Man, I am all about crazy random parties, but I don't think even I could get behind the one in that video.

@LemonLong: I think that situation is fine - NOT at a normal Dr office where other pregnant women are waiting for their weekly appointments (aka cranky, like I always am), and you can invite close people who can decide if they want to come - also easier to decline if you think it's weird than if it was just at your house or something... haha

I wouldn't do it. I like my being at the doctor and getting medical procedures to be pretty private.

Yeah I think, this is a little extreme. I think that's a moment for my DH and myself, no one else needs to be involved in ase there was a problem.

However, I did have an U/S right after a car accident, my dad was in the room with me because DH was 30 minutes away (dad was with me in accident) & they wanted to check baby. I needed the emotional support of family in case something was wrong & I was happy my dad was with me. He's never the first to "know" with 3 daughters, so him seeing the baby first was special for him.

It was only ever me and Dh for my ultrasounds. At one point I was in the waiting room for my six week pp appt with two friends of a couple getting their scan. I guess they were waiting to find out the sex of the baby but couldn't go in the room or something. I talked to them for a bit but didn't really get why they would come in the middle of the day to an appt to wait in the waiting room. Hey to each their own.

@spaniellove: even though there were seats for everyone, I was mildly annoyed they were there because I had to breastfeed my six week old an it was a little awkward with this 20 year old boy, not a parent or anywhere close to it, sitting directly across from me.
