Ladies, I'm sooo out of the baby loop. I have a carrier for 6mos+ that I'm really happy with (Onya) but I need one for newborn days. It would be awesome if both parents could use one, but I'd consider buying 2 as well.
With DS, I remember trying Björn, Moby, and Ergo with NB insert but none of them were great and we didn't get into the baby wearing groove until after 6 months. I was looking at a ktan, what do you think of those? How about kangaroo type shirts you can insert baby into?

I *love* the Baby K'Tan for newborn days. It's much easier to use than a full wrap but still cozy and appropriate for newborns. I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/Baby-Ktan-Print-Carrier-Infant/dp/B01BNB4JU6
I'm still using it with my giant almost 7 month old, but it's a little too saggy now, so I think we need to retire it soon.
I got a ring sling and used it a few times, but I thought it was harder to get a good fit than the K'Tan. The only thing about the Ktan is that it's not adjustable like a ring sling. I found it to be a good fit, but if you're in between sizes it could be tricky. On a related note, I could never use an ergo because it's just too long for my torso. I found the catbirdbaby pikkolo to be a better fit.

I agree with @Chuckles. The baby k'tan is great for newborns! We also have an ergo baby with the newborn insert, but I liked the baby k'tan better when DD was tiny. The ergo baby worked well when she got a little older.
I got a baby k'tan in my size, which was too small for my husband, so I used that and he used the ergo baby.

I wasn’t a fan of the Ktan but LOVE my Solly baby and can’t wait to use it again! DD2 lived in it as a newborn while I chased a toddler around.

I loved my Mei Tai carrier!! I used it all the time out and about. At home to calm her down I sometimes used a Moby.

@MoonMoon: I probably would size down. I think it's probably safer as it will stretch a bit if you use it a lot. They recommend getting your pre-pregnancy size which I was worried would be too small, but it worked!

@Becky: is the Solly similar to a Moby? I remember the moby feeling hot with all the material, but my first was born in June and this next one will be a cold weather baby so maybe that would be an advantage!

@Fawn: good to know they stretch a bit with wear. A little snug is probably preferable to loose in that case.

@MoonMoon: I don’t have any experience with the Moby. There was a heat wave and drought the summer DD2 was born and she was fine in it. The fabric is very thin.

Haaaaated the k’tan and stretchy wraps (like the Moby). Love my ring sling!
If there is a baby wearing group nearby, they may have a lending library for you to try different carriers out!

Actually loved my ring sling for carrying my third babe when she was tiny! Much faster and easier than a stretchy wrap and took up less space in the nappy bag.

@MoonMoon: agree with all poster above, LOVED the k’tan for the first six months. Definitely size down. I have trouble-shooted a few friends through it now, and every one of them that had issues, it was because they were using a size that was too big.

Just had my third baby and we have been living in the solly wraps. It is thin enough that even hot days it is super comfortable. I used a k’tan with my first and just did not care for it, not easy to share with my husband due to size differences and does not allow for size adjustments for baby. Ring slings are great too but you asked about wraps, for my 6 week old it is mostly my solly wraps and then the ring sling for quick ups is someone is misbehaving.

I also loved the k’tan fkr my first 2. That’s what I have lined up for baby who is due in 2 weeks. I didn’t use it the full 6 months with either kid and expect to transition to my Tula as soon as baby is big enough though.

Thank you all! So it looks like I should look into the Solly. I ordered a K'tan. There used to be a baby store in our town that did a carrier lending library, but they closed down. I don't think we have anything like it now (but I'm not on Fb maybe I'm missing out!) and I'm wondering if these programs would be on hiatus due to Covid...
I think I have something like a ring sling somewhere... I should give it another shot, I just remember being more comfortable with a slightly more structured carrier in the early days.

I couldn’t get the Moby or Solly to work for me. We used our Beco Gemini starting at 6 or 7 weeks and she loved it even when she was tiny (probably 8 pounds at that age). Still using it at 27 mos!

With my youngest, I used an Infantino. I'll still use it on occasion, but she likes the stroller as well. It can be used as long as baby is 8lbs. DD2 was just over 9lbs at birth. I used it starting on day 2. I never tried any of the wraps.

I love love love Happy baby carriers. Look them up. Get them used even. Best of luck! My baby carriers have been the last thing I parted with from my baby stuff. I love them so much!
