Do you burp your newborn at every feeding? If your newborn falls asleep while eating do you wake him/her up to burp? Do you do the same for bottle and breast?

We burped her at every feeding and if she fell asleep, I still tried to burp her because she has/had worse gas than most babies. If she was really asleep, she actually didn't wake up while I burped her.
I always burped her more with a bottle too which is what the LC I saw suggested. She ate faster from a bottle and would spit up a lot if we didn't burp her every few minutes (I think they recommended five minutes). While breastfeeding, I just burp between sides.

We never really burped her because she never got gasy or spit up. Honestly, we would sit her up for a "break" and if she needed to burp she would just let it out.

I have never regularly burped LO. He did spitup a lot, but burping really didn't seem to help. He was never fussy or gassy though, in which case I would have put more emphasis on burping. Whenever I'm around MIL and she seems me not burp him, she promptly takes him and says "Here, I'll burp you." Kinda annoying

we always burped. they usually stayed asleep during the burping in the newborn phase!
if we didn't get the burp out, we usually paid later, so we always got the burp.

Sometimes I don't burp her if she's asleep, but I try to usually. In that case I rub her back instead of patting as it seems gentler. I burp between sides. She will also stop eating often if she needs to burp so that's helpful!

ditto @mrs bee; as a newborn, LO slept through burpings. EBF (from the breast) babies don't always burp though, so we didn't/don't always get one.

same as hilsy and mrs bee -- LO slept through burpings, but we had a hard time always getting one... he's almost 7 weeks now and we usually get a burp each feeding now. If we don't burp, he spits up later.

I would always try to burp afterwards - most times I got one, but sometimes I didn't and after a few minutes of trying I would give up. When he started spitting up a lot around 4 months, we would stop him halfway through a feeding and burp, then again after he was done eating.

We had to burp after every ounce for a long time because she had issues with tummy gas. We burped even if she had fallen asleep.

if my LO is asleep, it usually means she doesn't have a burp. when she has one, she is squirmy, and roots wildly around at the boob but doesn't latch on even though she is still hungry. 90% of her burps come out as soon as we sit her up, but she has had some stubborn ones that come out 30 minutes later after squirming, patting, walking around. if i forget to burp her and she has one, she will spit up later...it happened this morning!

Oh we definitely burp! Every ten minutes when nursing and every ounce when bottle feeding. If we get lazy about it we pay. Dearly.

Thanks everyone! I was afraid of waking her up and then struggling to get her back to sleep, but it seems like that won't be a problem.

I burp between boobs or if he's pulling off and fussing. Patting on the back actually puts him to sleep though nursing rarely does:)

in the beginning yes. Somtimes I skipped burping because I didnt want to disturb her when she fell asleep but then she would throw up in her crib and I would feel terrible
