So we are struggling with naming our little girl who is due in March. I think we have it narrowed down to 2 names (maybe 3) and one of them is Meredith. My only issue with it is what do you use as a nickname? We have a very long and hard to pronounce/complex last name, so a nickname would be a nice option for her to have? Any suggestions?

I know a Meredith and people just say "Mer" for a nickname (she's also awesome, if that helps!)

I have a friend name Meredith and we call her "Mer."
I had a friend growing-up named Meredith that we called Mae-Mae, too!

My cousin is named Meredith. Her nn is Mia/mea (also her initials). You can also do Mere or Merrie. It's a beautiful name!

Often NN happen naturally. I don't think you have to decide on one before she gets here if you love the name a NN will come in time.

I know that Mary/Meri is an obvious but we have a good friend's little girl that is Mary so that is out.
I like Mia for a nickname, Mer is the first thing that come to mind but I'm not loving it.

I knew a "Merry" growing up. I thought it was cute! It doesn't sound the same as "Mary" to me.

@lulu mom I totally hear you, but even if you 'plan' a NN another one may take over. My name is Alison, most people call me Ali and that's how I introduce myself as an adult, but as a child everyone called me Al. My Mom hated it and would always correct people and declare that was most certainly not my NN. She was uptight about it and claimed it made me sound like a truck driver. Anyways, it's a weird memory to have as a kid, and regardless of how much my Mom did not care for it, the NN stuck, my Dad even still calls me Al. Just my .02 for what it's worth.

I like the name Meredith and the nickname Mer... although I tend to call babies nicknames ending in ie or y... I'd probably go with Mimi!

My friend Meredith goes by "Mimi" her family for some reason calls her "Millie" and new friends call her "Mer"

I went to high school with a girl named Meredith and people called her Merry. I thought it was really cute. Definitely different than calling her Mary.

SIL's name is Meredith and she'll call herself Auntie Mer Mer but other than that, she doesn't use a nn.
I should say, that's what she calls herself to DS, not just to anyone.
