Was it during a nap? or did he just start screaming out of nowhere?

My baby hasn't had one but I witnessed my niece having one. It was super scary! And my sibling had them a fair bit as a child. Good news is, apparently, it doesn't do them any harm. And they usually don't even remember it in the morning. But it still is the freakiest thing to see!

Oh my! That sounds so scary! I don't think my LO does...But once in a while when she's sleeping she'll cry out suddenly but then that's it.

My brother used to have night terrors when he was little. He'd "wake up" screaming about something, for example a train that was coming right for him. And he'd say like "it's gonna hit me, I have to move!"... he looked like he was awake, was talking to us like he was awake, but he was asleep. When my mom would wake him up, he'd be completely confused and then fall back asleep.

He never remembered anything about them, so really they were more terrifying for us than for him. His doctor assured my mom it was really common (esp in young boys) and that he would outgrow it, and sure enough, he did.

I'm pretty sure we experienced our first night terror tonight. It was terrifying! DD woke up and I went to get her. When I got back upstairs to our room, she was screaming like she was in pain, thrashing, inconsolable. When I got DH to try to walk around with her, she screamed louder as if she was scared and confused, nothing I did helped.

I got DH to call a 24hr medical helpline just in case and they told me not to put her in bed right away; to let her play. It took awhile, but she finally snapped out of it and was all smiles.

She's back in her room now sleeping and I'm trying to calm my nerves! Holy crap, that was scary intense! Is there any way I can lessen the chance of this happening again? She's 15 months old.
