B recently started having night wakings. I believe it is because he just cut his second tooth. When he wakes, he has a shriek-like cry that is different than his usual fussy cry.
We did CIO when we transferred him to the crib a couple of weeks ago. It went really smoothly and he never cried for more than 10 mins. Since then, he has woke multiple times in the middle of the night and just played himself to sleep. So, he is capable of self-soothing.
These recent wake ups have us stumped though. I can't let him cry in his crib if I think he is hurting or hungry so I have been going to get him. I feed him and give him Tylenol and try to get him back to sleep. This is where it gets complicated.
It has been taking me upwards of 2 hours to get him back to sleep after these wakings. I can get him back to sleep in my arms but he wakes during the crib transfer and screams again. Twice, out of exhaustion, I have brought him into our room and put him in his RnP. When I put him in the RnP he goes right to sleep. DH is against this. Our pediatrician told him we need to keep him in his crib during the night or he will start manipulating us to get back in our room. For one, he is 5 months old so I don't really think he is capable of manipulation yet. Two, he isn't protesting the crib when we put him down in the beginning of the night, just after his night waking.
I am exhausted. These two hour nighttime fights have us both miserable. Is there really any harm in just bringing him in our room? Or is my husband right and I just need to suck it up and do what needs to be done to keep him in his crib?
I don't want to start bad habits, I just want LO and I to get some sleep!
