Kids are 4.5 and 7
DS has requested a weekly movie night.
Any thoughts on good ones that aren't cartoons? DD may or may not watch so I am trying to go more in favor of whats good for the 7yr old

The Beatrix Potter Collection is a good one. They have live action at the beginning of each episode and then it goes into the Potter stories with her artwork. My kids (6 & 3) like them.

Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music are the only two films my son will watch. There's also Peter Pan. I'm curious to see what others suggest since my son literally freaks out in front of animated films.

Buddies - I think it's Disney but not cartoon. It's about these golden retriever pups. N

@Mamaof2: that may be too "advanced" for my son. We just tried watching Ratatouille this evening and he flipped out and started crying hysterically. We had to turn it off after about 10 minutes.

What about an old silent film. Something a bit silly like Charlie Chaplan?

@lamariniere: I think it's so interesting that cartoons bother him so much. I know you've mentioned it before. Has he seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang yet? It's a favorite in our house along with Mary Poppins.

One of our favorites as kids was Flight of the Navigator. It's a REALLY old Disney movie, but it's great! Also, Never-ending Story! Short Circuit. The Sandlot. Angels in the Outfield. E.T. Goonies. Mary Poppins.

@BananaPancakes: Hmm, he hasn't, I hadn't even thought of that one! I'll have to add it to our list once he has recovered from Ratatouille. I don't know why he's so scared of animation. This summer he discovered Paw Patrol, but it's really one of the few animated shows he will watch. We also tried Bubble Guppies since it seems like everyone around the Bee loves them, but it scares him.

I just thought of Home Alone for when the holidays get closer. I remember watching that over and over as a kid!
