DD is turning one next month and I'm looking to get her the warmest winter coat I can find. We live in Chicago and the winters here are brutal!!! I got her a puffy Gap one but thinking of returning it for a North Face one that we found for the same price. DH thinks North Face will be warmer. Any of your LOs have a North Face winter coat they love? Do they wear it while in car seat or do you take it off and put back on?

I would definitely swap it for a NF. Warmer and fleece is ok in the car seat but puffy coats aren't.

@dolphin: I would prefer the NF over the Gap one also. My LO has the pink one, I think it comes in white, gray, and purple also. We got ours at Nordstrom.

We have a NF fleece jacket for LO by it's not all that warm. I'd like to go w something warmer but also nervous about what to do in the car seat.

Patagonia! LO had a North Face Denali last winter, which worked great. This year we splurged a little and bought the Patagonia down jacket. I kind of want one for myself because he looks so warm and toasty without getting overheated.

@dolphin: we buy NF's for the LO's every year (usually during the anniversary sale at Nordstrom). DS has a down NF and it keeps him super warm.

@bunnylove08: that's the one I'm looking at! Does it get super cold where you live? My only concern is I wasn't sure if it will be warm enough because it feels so lightweight. DH thinks it will be fine though. He figures it's better material so it should keep DD really warm even though it's not super puffy.
@Periwinkle: check out the link above! That was the one I was looking at and I think it will be ok for car seat because it's not that puffy but should be warmer than fleece. Just wasn't sure if I should go even thicker. Is it really cold by you?
@HLK208: oh man I just missed nordtroms anniversary sale! Think it was a couple weeks ago? Which one does your DS have? Is it wearable in car seat?

@dolphin: we're in NYC so it does get cold. So far it's worked really well for us. The website says it's supposed to be really warm and it's gotten great reviews

We have a puffy NF jacket for LO (without a hood) and it definitely is warm. However, it's way too thick for him to wear in the carseat.

@dolphin our daughter has the perrito jacket from NF (in that adorable woodland print!) and we love it. We live in Edmonton, and this year it's already gotten to -20 and she has been toasty! It's thin enough that we feel safe leaving it on her while she's in her car seat. I highly recommend it!

Sure, why not? You can't go wrong with NF. And the Gap ones have been great for us too!
It's not recommended to put your LO's in their car seats with their winter coats on, especially the puffy ones...but I'm totally guilty of doing it occasionally but mostly on short drives that are 5-10 minutes max. If the car is really cold I still take their coats off and actually put them on backwards with their hands through the sleeves so they can stay warm enough until the car warms up. And it's easy to pull off from the front if you can reach your LO. I've done it many times.

DD has a puffy north face coat. I love it. But we don't put her in the car seat with it. I tend to put a light jacket or none at all and then a blanket over the car seat becaus dyne coat is so thick and warm and my kid is a sweater. Also because we live in a very walkable town, most of our car trips are over an hour to go see family.

We purchase all Patagonia. LO has the down bunting and we love it! I think good coats are important.

@dolphin: we dont have north face for LO but I know their outwear jackets should not be worn inside the car seat. only the fleece jackets can be worn in the car seat
