LO has a cold and is congested. I bought a nosefrida and was so excited to receive it yesterday. I don't get the hype. The bulb aspirator got way more snot out than the nosefrida.
Hmm, Am I not getting something? Maybe I'm not using it correctly, but I wish I had not bought it!

The first time I used it I didn't get much out. But when I started really sucking, I got Sooooo much out. My husband had to do it a few times first though -I think i was afraid to suck.

I didn't love it the first few times. I started spraying saline before sucking and it worked much better.

@Tidybee: Does it take your breath away? I was tired after sucking. OMG! Do you put the tip in your Lo's nose like you would the aspirator?

@autumnlove: I tried the saline and still didn't get a lot. I got much more with the bulb.
Also, I swear I caught her cold from the nosefrida. I was fine until I used it & then I woke up with the same symptoms LO has.

So... this nose frieda-- you stick it in LO's nose, and literally put the other end in your mouth and suck the snot out? What keeps the snot from getting in your mouth?
I've seen the rave reviews everywhere, so I cam convinced I need one, but it sounds SO disgusting. Like, seriously gross. You can imagine DH's reaction when I described it to him..

@Foodnerd81: it's such a gross concept, but has rave reviews. I was kind of grossed out yesterday while using it, and like I said earlier, I really think I caught DD's cold from it

I love it ! For us I think it works as well as the bulb but FASTER. that's the pro for me. My LO hates the aspirator and the faster the better ! I get the most when I use saline.

I felt like I was going to pass out using it for real congestion. For little stuff, it's great. I use my bulb more often, but I wish the bulb was clear!

@Foodnerd81: it has a filter .. basically like a little sponge that protects anything from getting to you. Plus I've never experienced the gunk getting veeven a third of the way up the tube towards my mouth!

We love ours! sometimes it helps to sort of swivel it at the edge, and I use saline drops first. I am also SO grossed out by the mildew and mold that can grow inside aspirators!

I loved the nose frida but I realized everytime I used it (when LO has a cold) I get sick afterwards. So I went back to using the bulb only...

@MarieJ: Colds take more than half a day to incubate, so likely you got the cold before hand.

I spray saline mist in my lo's nostrils first. Wait a few seconds, then suck. I loooooooove my nose frida and have never gotten sick from using it.
I don't even bother with the filter.

I keep almost getting it and then chickening out. I've read lots of reviews and pretty much it seems 100% positive but I think I'd feel like you, which is why I keep chickening out. LO hates the bulb syringe I can't imagine how she'd handle something that takes a bit more time. @Mrs. Jacks: Sorry to be a geek but cold viruses can have very short incubation periods, a lot of times symptoms take less than 24 hours to appear after exposure. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Incubation+periods+of+experimental+rhinovirus+infection+and+illness

OMG I LOOOVE the nose frida. Just this morning, I got this HUGE boogie out of my son's nose that had been stuck in there for a few days. He kept picking at it and it wouldn't come out so I squirted saline solution up his nose and nose frida'd it out. I used to use the bulb syringe but after reading about mold problems, I cut one open in half and actually found mold!! I was so grossed out. So nose frida all the way for us!

Sigh.. this is on my registry because every parent I know raves about it, but I am considering taking it off (again) because I get grossed out really easily adn this jus tseems disgusting to me.

I love our nosefrieda. I really should have used it yesterday when LO was sniffling. I clean ours out thoroughly after each use. I find using the rubbing alcohol helps a lot to keep it clean.

@Tidybee: I agree! I didn't like the NF the first couple of times I tried to use it, but once I really started to suck, the difference was tremendous!

@Modern Daisy: I'm usually grossed out by a lot of stuff, but after having LO, cleaning his dirty butt so many times, using a Windi on his butt, and other gross things, the Nosefrieda is the least gross thing I've come across since becoming a mom.

I am only grossed our by the nose frida when I think about what i'm doing. I like to think about something else and find it helps a lot. And I've gotten every cold L gets anyway, whether I've used the nosefrida or not.

@MarieJ: Try putting it on an angle. So instead of inserting the tip straight into the nostril, angle it to the side a bit. It takes a little practice but for us, that thing + saline worked wonders!

I showed it to my husband and he doesn't want us to use it (though I did buy it). He thinks we will suck too hard and damage her sinuses - he only wants to use the bulb. Not sure what'll happen yet - she's not quite here yet!

H has boogers the size of her daddy's! They're the same- I swear I didn't know boogers were genetic but they are HUGE and white and when she's crying sometimes it will like perculate and go in and out. The nose frida is the only thing that allows me to attack those monster boogers FAST!!! The bulb took more tries for me, plus the mold thing disgusts me.
H's big sticky boogers never make it all the way up to the filter. Maybe they're too heavy?? IdK...I've never changed the filter bc nothing ever gets all the way up there.

It's always worked really well for me- I don't even use the saline. My son absolutely hated the bulb so anything was better than that. I thought it sounded disgusting at first too but it's amazing the sort of things that you will do when you are desperate to help your LO breathe. Never say never!

Yeha, if I actually think about it, it's gross, but for the most part, I'm so worried about getting it over with because he's freaking out, that i dont have time to think about it. I just suck (and yes, I get winded myself) and then it's overwith. No matter how hard I suck, the snot/boogies never get more than 1/3 of the way up the tube. There is, like, ZERO chance that I would ever get any of it in my mouth, even without the filter.

I have the Baby Comfy Nose, it's similar to the NoseFrida but you don't use special filters, just toilet paper, and it's shaped differently. LO has been majorly stuffed up for the past week with RSV and it has been a lifesaver. I like that I can see what's coming out and I can more easily clean it than the bulb syringe, plus I don't like having to stick the bulb in LO's nose -- you can irritate their cavities that way.
I did get sick as well, but I'm willing to bet it was from cuddling and kissing my sick kid more than it was sucking out his snot.
