DD has a really, really bad cold. I'm debating buying a nosefrieda out of desperation but can't imagine it wouldn't pass germs?
I mean, she's coughed in my face so my fate is probably sealed regardless

There's a sponge that's inserted in between the tube the snot get sucked into and the mouth piece.

I guess it probably does, but I think the transfer of germs would be really, really minimal. We have used one on LO (now 2.5) since she was a baby and I can't remember ever getting sick from it.

I don't think it transfers germs any more than snuggling together...I wouldn't worry too much about it. LO hates that thing so so much, but it's the only way to get the snot out...at least it's faster than the bulb syringe, so we get it over with quicker.

I always figured if LO was going to get me sick, it was going to happen regardless of what I did. We used the nosefrieda religiously for awhile (lots of sickness between 3 and 9 months), and it was a lifesaver. I used it and sometimes got sick and sometimes didn't.

@sorrycharlie: It has the filter and I wash it in hot soapy water after each use. The one time I got sick I blame on LO sneezing in my face and sticking his hands in my mouth during diaper changes more than the Nosefrieda.

Every time one of us gets sick and I ask the pediatrician about precautions with DS, they tell me he's already been exposed. So I'm guessing if some germs come through the nosefrieda, it won't be anything you haven't already been exposed to, or can avoid anyways.

I've never gotten sick strictly from the Nose Frida. I get sick because she coughs in my face. It's so worth it. She'll probably fight you when you use it, but it's amazing how much snot it can get out!

I feel like we're in such close contact with our kids every day there is no way around sharing germs and since the Nose Frida is such an awesome tool for helping relieve LO's congestion I'm not going to stop using it because I'm afraid of germs.

Oh, I'm positive that you will transfer germs with a nose frieda. Viruses can definitely make it through the sponge (they are smaller than the sponge pores). Thing is, it's a risk you take, because it works really well. Plus kids are always sneezing on you and wiping their snot on you and sicking their fingers in your mouth/nose. So I figure we're doomed anyways.

the Nosefrida. LO still hates it, but it works so well.

I have been using the NF on my 4 year old, and this time around, I have managed not to catch his cold. I was very vigilant with hand washing, and I cleaned the entire NF, including the mouthpiece, after every single use.

Wash it with hot soapy water, wash your hands, etc. The germs are already airborne and chance are you've been exposed
I don't think there's much you can do--my kid sneezed in my face last week and gave me pinkeye. They're germ magnets and the nosefrida is at the bottom of my concern list!

I've been pretty much a crazy person cleaning, washing hands etc. - I'm due in 2 weeks, so I'm terrified of catching it and being deathly ill during L&D and having a newborn! and, having DD not able to visit or be near her sister in the early days.
I don't think I'll buy it this time around because really, I don't wanna drag DD to target in freezing temps. But I may buy one for DD2 (and DD1, I guess, lol). Her congestion seems to have eased up today, now she's got a cough. Sigh..

I'll be the voice of dissent, both times DD was sick and I busted out the NoseFrida, I got really, really sick. Maybe it was coincidence, but I doubt it...I mean yes, she coughs on me and wipes her snot on me, but with the NoseFrida you're drawing germy snotty air directly into your lungs. The sponge would keep actual snot from getting through but IMO it can't possibly catch the germs and still allow air through. So I stopped using it and just use the bulb. It might not work quite as well but I haven't been so, so sick since I put the NoseFrida away.
the Nosefrida. LO still hates it, but it works so well.
