I mentioned to our pedi I use the nosefrieda and she mentioned even though it has a filter it isn't industrial strength so germs still pass through it. Darn, I really liked it too...now I keep wondering if that's why I've been sick so much lately!

I love it. the filter looks like it doesnt do anything but so far *knock on wood* I havent gotten sick for DD
I just gave one to a friend who just had her baby.

I don't know what I'd do without it!
That does make sense since I do most of the Nosefrida'ing and I'm usually the one that gets sick and not DH.

Meh. I'm not too concerned about getting sick. I still kiss all over him, he rubs his snot on me, etc. I doubt the Nosefrida adds too much extra risk.

I use a new filter every few times. But honestly, my LO slobbers all over me. I'm going to catch her colds whether I use the nose frida or not.

It never really worked for me. Maybe I didn't suck hard enough? That makes sense though.

Also to add I am pretty sure the filter is only to ensure snot doesn't get in your mouth - not for germs!

It works great at getting snot but both DH and I got super sick a couple times while we were using it.

Yeah, there's no way that filter works to keep the germs out. Heehee - it would be so easy to work in my lab, if all I needed was a sponge to keep my stuff sterile. Having said that - I normally catch colds from her anyways - kisses, slobbers, she keeps wiping her boogers on me. So, I figure I'm doomed anyways. Just have to work on keeping my gag reflex down when I see the snot come out.

I'm pretty sure I'll get whatever cold LO has with or without the NoseFrida. Benefits far outweigh the risks - those bulb suckers worked like crap for us.

I'm going to get whatever she has (and vice-versa) with the amount of time we spend together. SOOo worth the risk. She disliked it but allowed it, whereas the bulb thing made her NUTS.

I love it. Works well for us and she HATES the bulb. My mom thinks I'm crazy. Like others said, I'm snuggling and kissing her either way, so if I catch it, it's not because of the Nosefrieda.

I'd get sick every time (uh, and did) and use it again. I figure I'm just sucking her germs into me. I mean hello, it's not like that filter is an industrial mask. I figure the filter is there so you don't choke on any boogies that you suck out. Mmmmm. Delicious.

@rahlyrah: This.
The likelihood is I'm going to get sick anyway since we're in such close proximity all the time and I kiss all over him anyway. I'd rather be able to quickly and efficiently help him get his snot out then worry about it though. Benefit > risk.

Agree with pps that the benefit outweighs the risk. I'm sure the filter doesn't do much, but I'm definitely snuggling M when she's sick and miserable. I feel like there's no way I won't get sick anyway and the nosefrieda definitely makes her more comfortable!

It's totally gross and I'm sure I get the germs, but she's coughing in my face and slobbering all over me anyway. And it works, no matter how much she hates it. I guess this is the mom in me, but I'd rather the grossness be on my end (sucking her germs into my mouth) than her (using a bulb that cannot be properly cleaned).
@yellowbird: you have to suck really, really hard. At least I do. And it helps to use saline spray up her nose first to loosen the snot.

I loooooved the nose Frieda. I used it a ton and don't think I ever got sick using it? Maybe I did and I just don't remember. It's awesome though.
cantaloupe / 6206 posts
What? That doesn't make any sense - germs that come through the NoseFrieda are not airborne. The only reason the grade of filter would make a big difference is if you're sucking so much snot that the snot itself is pushed physically up against the filter. When I use it, the snot stays down in the very tip of the tube, nowhere near the filter. I've never had any concerns about using it.

Love love love the Nosefrieda and I don't care what anyone says bad about it! lol

the nose frida is our jam. didn't notice any greater sickness when she was sick although most of the time, her snot was teething related!

It never worked for us!! I bought an automatic nasal aspirator for the next baby.
