Great question! I can't wait to read the responses. We both are night owls. I can get up early if I have to but it's usually once in a blue moon type of thing. If I have to get up early more regularly like 5 or 6 am, I can get super crabby.

My dh was a night owl like yours before having a baby, but after making the mistake of staying up too late several times and being exhausted the next day helping me take care of Lo, he learned his lesson lol. He now goes to bad at a reasonable hour and is helpful the next day. I always tell him he is free to stay up as late as he likes, but it is his own fault if he is tired in the morning, we have a baby now and I excpect him to be a good dad to our daughter, and he couldn't do that if he stayed up til all hours and slept for most of the day. Thankfully his night owl ways have changed.

@Foodnerd81: I think it will work one day, when breast feeding days are over. At the very least, DH can get the baby, change it, and bring the baby to you for feeding!

My DH is also a morning person, so I'm hoping that's how it will go with us!

I'm NOT a morning person. And as motherhood has taught me, I do not handle walking up during the night very well. DH is so super awesome at waking up with her. He gets up at about 6 and goes and grabs her when she wakes up which is at about 7:00-7:30. I try my best to be up at 8 but when I do, I need about 2-3 hours to 'wake-up'.

@shopaholic: because a lot of kids wake up at 4 am in the morning? At least, that's why I had to make the shift!

@shopaholic: there are so many unknown variables, it's impossible to predict! Hope it works out for him... and you!

It's a work in progress. At first DH got up with LO (we jokingly refer to it as 'first shift') but then he got tired and resentful. So now we split it day-to-day if we're both home, or both get up. I find that if DH just gives me an extra hours sleep I'm a lot better at getting up (LO is usually up for 2 hrs and then 20 min nursing before his first nap). It's definitely the hardest part of the day, other than nights he refuses to sleep before 11).

We also head back to bed while LO has his first nap. Helps immensely.

Neither of us were morning people. After having kids Wagon Sr. found out he IS a morning person! Thank God. I'm a total night owl. I used to hate it when he napped throughout the day or fell asleep on the couch at 8pm but since he was able to get up in the mornings with the baby I started letting him sleep whenever he wanted! Haha.
