How do you know when it's ok to return sick LO to daycare? Am I being a silly first time mom?
Almost 6 month LO has been sick since starting daycare a month ago but got a particular bug on Saturday. First it was a fever, runny nose, cough. The fever broke Sunday morning but then she got pink eye and frequent BMs, 8 or so a day. We saw the doctor on Monday afternoon and got drops for the pink eye and found fluid in the ears. The doctor was not at all concerned about the BMs. She said it was not diarrhea. She recommended not treating the fluid in the ears unless the fever returns, in which case we would do antibiotics.
The doctor and I agreed I would keep LO home Tuesday as well for extra snuggles and to allow the full 24 hours on the pink eye. She was clear that daycare gave her the cold and daycare should have to deal with it. Both the doctor and daycare seemed to think she could have gone back safely though.
Yesterday the BMs turned bright green and got more watery, chimichurri-ish. She also coughed to the point of vomiting twice. I was glad I kept her home from daycare but planned to take her back today.
This morning her diaper was dry after 12 hours. That's never happened overnight before. She ate 3 times in that dry period. Right after I checked the dry diaper she had another chimichurri poop. I called the nurse advice line and the nurse told me to keep her home since she's probably more susceptible to other colds at daycare and could use some more TLC. I feel like the doctor we saw would say send her to daycare but I'm not going to pay the co-pay to hear it.
Everyone I talk to seems to think this is no big deal. My cousin with a newborn (her second) wants me to visit. The daycare director thinks LO should come in. I think they're nuts. Luckily, work isn't pressuring me to come in because my boss has a newborn and another woman in my group is immuno-compromised at the moment.
Should LO be back at daycare? Am I just being a overprotective?
