So at my NT today (12W2D) the US tech told me her guess on gender and then retracted it because she wasn't sure as it started moving around. She said the nub looked girl but then she thought she might have seen boy parts as baby was squirming. Anyone's nub guess not end up being right? I had a blood test so I should know soon, but I am just curious.

I, honestly, don't think you can tell based on the nub. I think it's just a guess. But you'll know soon with your DNA test.

My ultrasound tech didn't hazard a guess at the NT scan, and none of the screen shots I took home with me were super clear - but I also found out during a blood test, and it was confirmed at my next ultrasound.

@CatchAFallingStar: Interesting. My US tech seemed to think that it was pretty reliable but she did say that sometimes when it looks down like a girl, it is just a relaxed boy.

@ladybee: We had the Panorama prenatal screening done (http://www.panoramatest.com/en/expecting-mother), mainly because our insurance covered it regardless of mother's age/risk factors. I understand it can be as much as a couple thousand if it's not covered though? Definitely look into the price/insurance coverage beforehand so you're not in shock after it's done!

My tech gave me an 80% accuracy of guessing boy at the 12 week scan, and she was correct... but I was still too doubtful to say anything until 18 weeks when it was confirmed.
I know someone whose tech got it wrong at 12 weeks though! And she had already told people, so she had to go back and tell everyone, "nevermind! It's actually another girl!"

mine was right for my girl (at 12.5 weeks)! i didn't see a nub for my second. i think its pretty accurate as long as you're sure its the nub and its sometime between 12-14 weeks. in your pic the nub looks like it gets cut off by the picture, but if its going in the direction i think it is then i'd guess girl!

When I went for my NT scan the sonographer changed her mind too! The nub looked girl, and then boy, and then girl again. I don't remember what I thought about the nub, but I had always felt L was going to be a girl, even before she was conceived lol

@travellingbee: I guessed both of my babies correctly based on their nubs, as well as a few friends babies. Do you have a further zoomed out picture? The nub area is a little cut off on yours.

My tech guessed girl at the 12 week scan but was only about 70% sure- compared to 50 for a wild guess. I'll find out at the end of July if she was right.

@getjazzy: No, nothing that shows that area better, but she pointed out the nub and how it was not at an angle to the back (or something like that), so that indicated it was likely a girl. When the baby flipped over the other way, she thought she might have seen some boy parts so she became unsure, but laying down like in this picture, the nub was definitely pointing forward not up at an angle.

@travellingbee: There would be no boy parts to be seen at 12 weeks, so that part doesn't make sense. At this point, there is only the nub. From what I can see it looks kind of girly, but it does look like it could possibly have a little bit of a boyish lift at the end, but I can't be sure because it's cut off. Hard to tell!

@getjazzy: Thanks. yeah, I wish she had taken a better shot of that area. About there not being anything there except a nub, I know that is what is generally said but with my son, we got a shot of his stuff at 12+3 that was undeniable. All the goods and everyone including tech and pediatrician said, yup, that's a boy. So I don't know.

Our tech guessed girl based off nub at 12 weeks, confirmed at elective u/s at 15 weeks. When will you get results?!

With my son there were three photos and two were so boy but one looked girl. It's definitely not always reliable. Congratulations on your sweet baby boy!!!!
