That's horrible. It doesn't seem to make sense though. How sad. I can't help think of Will and Kate, too-- who would want to know that happened related to them, you know?

That is crazy. I wonder if there's more to it. I guess we'll see.

Some news stations are saying she was the receptionist actually that transferred the call that they found dead either way it's so very sad!!!

@Mrsbells: same here.
This is a really confusing story, not well written because I have no idea what happened.
What was the point of the prank call? They didn't say anything offensive? So why did the nurse kill herself?

Wow... I wouldn't go so far as to say they have blood on their hands, though. I mean, geez. Killing yourself is a little bit of a strong reaction to having been duped into transferring a prank call...

I think they're assuming it was suicide because the hospital and those nurses on the call in particular were getting a lot of grief for breaching royal security and giving away what should have been classified information. People were railing the hospital. It was an honest mistake, but people are cruel. This story is so, so sad!

@Mrsbells: @Mrs. Pen: I don't know either. As far as I know, she didn't really give anything way to the radio station when she thought they were the queen. Maybe she was just super embarrassed, but if so, then she had to have other issues going on to do something to drastic.

Oh man, that's horrible! Poor girl. I suspect she got scolded pretty bad after blabbing things over the phone and I bet her coworkers weren't nice about it, but that's really horrible that she took her own life!

@Smurfette: @Mrs. Pen: I heard she gave a few minor details of Kate's condition and I think she is just really embarrased that she believed the fake british accent was really the queen and prince charles...
But still I dont think this is grounds for suicide. The prank callers should be charged with impersonation to obtain information

This is really sad, and the prank callers must feel so ridiculously horrible.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@Mrsbells: @Smurfette: you would think that in that type of situation there would be some type of code phrase or something to verify if the call was really the queen anyhow!!
I guess I hadn't thought of the repercussions but I mean really, you can't blame her anyway!! That would be awful to feel ostracized over something like this... the article didn't mention Will & Kate's feelings about the whole thing but they didn't sound outraged...
I think, like pp said, there must have been bigger issues going on in her life and this was the straw that broke the camels back.

Do you think this might just be a coincidence? I don't think a lighthearted phone call by radio DJs in Australia with horrible accents would have anything to do with someone taking their own life...
But bottom line, very sad for her and her family.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
There is a better written article about it. It was the receptionist at the hospital Kate was at, she transferred the DJ's to Kates nurse, and the nurse told the DJ's when the best time to visit her would be, and what was wrong with her and that she was pregnant.
So I think the receptionist felt guilty for assisting in Kate's pregnancy announcement?

OMG!! THis is so sad. I'm sure she was criticized for believing in the call, but I can't believe she took her own life for it. So sad, especially since she was well respected and liked by all her colleagues!

So so sad ...
It is likely that the receptionist would be at risk of losing their job because of transferring the call, not to mention the nurse for answering questions without verifying the caller. I know my hospital and nursing legislative body would come down pretty hard on you for breeching confidentiality like that.
You would likely be on unpaid leave until they investigated, then they would investigate to see if there were any other breeches in your past, then you would have to go up in front of a review board. I can see where if you were already depressed how that could push you over the edge.
Confidentiality is such a sticky issue, a nurse I work with got investigated and fined for breeching confidentiality when she was a patient in a store and approached them and asked hoe her baby was doing ...

Does England have HIPAA laws?
I've seen some of the conspiracy theorists come out on Facebook about this already. I honestly don't think that this was the actual cause of her suicide, just maybe the straw that broke the camel's back.
